Could use some BDW power today!

I lurk much more than I post these days thanks to a crazy schedule. Anyway - after several months of battling really nasty ear infections, we made the tough decision to have Hercules's ear canal removed. Both ears have had infections, but one is much worse and is so swollen that we can't get anything in there to fight the infections. I just dropped him off this morning and they will do the surgery (on one ear only) this afternoon. They are also going to check his soft palate while they have him under (he had that trimmed 3 years ago). So pretty please, would you send some good thoughts out for my special boy today?

Deafness

Hi Pat -

Yes, he will be deaf in that ear. The dermatologist said that with the swelling he has, it's likely that he doesn't hear very well anyway. He recommended doing both ears, but the surgeon did not want to do them both at the same time because he has a very narrow trachea and all the other fun breathing issues that these guys have. One ear was significantly worse than the other, so that is the one we had done. Still keeping our fingers crossed that we can get by without doing the other one, but if we have to do it we will. I trained him when he was a puppy using hand signals as well as verbal commands, so he's got a base level and I'll have some time to teach him some more hand signals as well.

good luck!! Boo used to get constant ear infections too. Fortunately, they went away from good when I changed her food.
