Cost of California bulldogs

Is it just California or are all bulldogs starting at 2,000? I haven't found one from a breeder under that amount. They're in the paper cheaper, but I don't want to do that. I was just wondering if it is a California thing or is it the price everywhere. I had my heart set on a bulldog, but at that price I won't be able to get one.

Dr. Butchko

Hope this is okay webbie! There are many families that breed their bulldogs out in the Riverside area. Some are breeding for show, some for pets. There is a GREAT bulldog doctor name Dr. Butchko who could probably give you some recommendations on a local breeder that might not be so pricey.

expensive pups

I think that is the problem. I just want a family pet. I do not want to show or breed it. I had planned on 1500.00 and will not go to any backyard breeder. I've read too much and know that would be a bad choice. I just find it funny that in this crazy economy people can get those kinds of prices. I guess I either need to keep looking or find another breed. I am truly disappointed. Thanks for all your help.

The thing about expensive puppies ......

Not all of them will be of breeding quality as adults ... but, with those high prices, the new owners very well could feel entitled to breed anyway.

$2,000.00 and up

Wow! Sue she really got $2,500 for the dogs? That does sound awful high. I believe the going price around here in Texas is anywhere from $1,200 to a high of $1,800. I could be wrong, that's just what I've seen and heard. And by the way, where are some pics of Opal. Haven't seen her in a while.

$2,000 and up

in New England. A friend of mine sold her last litter for $2,500 each. I thought it was high but she got it.

Re: Cost of California bulldogs

In my personal opinion you can get a quality bulldog for $1500.00 as long as you buy from a reputable breeder. I think that California bulldogs are probably a little bit more expensive. I live in Utah and bought my girl from one of the best breeders in this state. They are very into showing their dogs, have a good reputation, and their dogs are very healthy. I am actually getting another puppy from them soon. They will not ship their dogs, but I think they have met people half way and I think they routinely travel to California. If you want more info you can email me. If you just want a pet the rescue idea is a good one, but please don't buy a cheap bulldog from a backyard breeder. You will regret it later when the vet bills start coming in.

Cost of Bulldogs

Rick,
There is a very good reason for the price of Bulldogs.
It has to do with the problems and dangers of breeding.
There are some very good articles on this web site concerning breeding.
The price that you are seeing at $2,000.00 is average.
I do not believe that the Bulldogs of California are any more expensive than they are anywhere else.
If you cannot afford to put out the $2,000.00 for a pup and all the the vet care he/she will need, have you thought about a rescue? There is a fee for adopting a Bulldog, but it is not the price of a pup.
But, you will still have the vet fees as you would with any bully. If you want information about rescueing a Bully, contact me privately at BittyBull@aol.com, and I will help put you in touch with the right people.
