Cody health update...LONG...sorry

Cody will be going to see Dr.Shaw (in Woodstock ,Il.)on June 19th.at 8:00am
he will be getting Neutured
have his palate surgery
his teeth cleaned
his lump checked ..and removed if necessary
heartworm checked
yet another blood work-up
being we can obtain no past records for him..he will also have his yearly maintance shots
his bleeding penis sheath checked
his ears tested for any hearing

and I think that's about it..and because I have been asked several times what the cost will be..right now the guess -ta- ment not including the lump removal is
$1100.00
yowza...chuckle...
but for him to have all this done by one of the worlds greatest and kindest bullie vets ..I would hock my mum's diamond and over morgage my house...and climb up and hang the moon....smile

...I want to make this very clear..okay?
even though his heart and little wonderful spirit is everyones here..and I hope someday many of you will get to see and hug him in person....as his legal owner ,his medical expenses
are indeed my sole responsiblity!

he will be coming home that same day...which I had some concerns about..but Dr.Shaw...said knowing me and a bit of Cody's history..he should be held all night by me....smile...wasn't that sweet...
but I still had concerns..and Dr.Shaws real reason was that being he has bonded so deeply...he didn't want Cody to lose faith so to speak...and that he would keep him most of the day..and then send him home to rest in his own safe enviroment...
I will certainly keep you all posted ..when next week rolls around..But I thought I'd update you now also....
thanks ,hugs, love ..and so much gratitude to ya'all for every thing you wonderful folks have done...and your ongoing none stop love..and support of Cody ..and his journey...he truly does belong without any doubt to this board completely...no luckier Bullie ever exisited!ce

and.....

there's also those who have a pet-store bully, or even a bully from a reputable breeder who may encounter unexpected medical illness/surgery etc....

To earmark donations for specific people only, IMHO, could potentially turn this into a popularity contest, with others, maybe even more in need, excluded. If there is a special fund, it should be open for anyone who needs it and be determined by whoever is running it. I think anything else is opening up a can of worms....

There's a few of us with RESCUES

and I don't think any of us have ever asked for a donation (or expected one). I don't think it is appropriate either, it's what you take on when you take on a rescue.... and who's to say who is more deserving or in need of a donation than someone else who might not speak up or be as "popular" on the board?

and yes, I have a rescue, and a very expensive one at that with loads of baggage.

thanks for the update, and...

i get your message about his expenses... and it's understood! BUT do know that if you ever need anything you MUST ask us first!

Much love to you and your wonderful 6 (+1 -> hubbie!)

p.s. thanks for taking such good care of our Cody!

Vet Cost Donations For Rescues....

I still think maybe w needa BULLDOGS WORLD RESCUE DONATION option.

Perhaps, people who wanted to donate, could paypal the webbie with an attached note as to who they want their donation to go to. Say, if someone wanted to donate x amount to Codys' bills one month and to Kris another month, and so on. That sort of thing. Everything would be kept confidential that way and no pressure or "pushing for donations" on the board or anything. Just an option or a link on the main page about it or something, for those who would like to help with the rescues but are unable to "house" any themselves. That way, it is directly sent to a certain person or dog, not just a dontation to be sent to rescue org.s in general, which are still great anyway.

You decide if you want the bloodwork done or not-it is very inex

so there would really be no reason not to do it.

Vet Costs

I am a regular reader and sometimes poster and heard about the Cody rescue too late to contribute. I would really appreciate being able to contribute something to his vet care. I would ask that you please allow people that would like to help, to please help. Please also remember if you don't allow people to help you, they will be hesitant to ask for help as well. You must live in my neck of the woods because we also took Annie to see Dr. Shaw in Woodstock when we first got her. I live in Mt. Prospect. I don't have a paypal account, but you can email me your address. Please do consider it.

I DISAGREE -- more donations are justified!

Rescuing Cody was a group effort. He is sort of co-owned by all of us. If it will make you more comfortable, you could put a limit on the donations, like $20. No one is forced to contribute. Besides, the medical problems for which he will be treated are not things that arose since you have had him, but continuing fallout from his treatment pre-Ce. Perhaps you should personally pay for the neutering, but not all of the other things.

Oh, btw, is his penis still bleeding?? I squirmed just reading that. Hope there is something quick that can be done there.

we picked farcus up the night of both of his surgeries...

shaw rocks!

welcome to my world, ce....

I am so glad that he has you. He is a true rescue story....and a great dog to boot, it looks like he is a real charmer.

That lump must be something - MAggie's removal was about 500. for her dermoid cyst. It was about an inch around...

I think you are catching up to me with vet bills!!!!!!
well, almost.... I have a dry erase board in the kitchen with bully med schedules!

Here is the hysterical irony....I have NO health insurance for myself (long story)and I haven't had it for over a year...but the dogs get the best treatment!

Big hugs
Kris

Oh Boy....

Cody is going to have a busy day.....and after that he will be ALL BETTER... Good Luck little man...your Mum will take good care of you....That we all know:)

Best of Luck...

lots of prayers and good thoughts for his fast recovery...you are a great mommy!

thoughts and gratitude,prayers..and love are always welcome...

it will all work out...
thank you for your very kind words...
I so look forward to Cody feeling well ..and being able to breath ...etc...
however I'll admit I will miss some of the very adorable grunting...noises he makes....he has a langauge all his own...even his bark is odd .but cute....ce

thanks Judy....but please no donations...

every one here has done so much already....
I'll work it out...I admit I almost dropped my coffee..and Dr.shaw surely heard me gasp...chuckle
but that cost covers a magnitude of things....
and yes it is alot to have done, I am concerned about that also...but Dr.Shaw and I agree that one time under and do it all is easier on Cody then...then several times under..so we are going to get done as much as possible..so he can start eating ..and breathing...and forget his over studded days....blessings...ce

wow...

that will be some vet bill. Ce, you are right...you chose to take on Cody and all baggage that came with him, depsite the cost. You knew he would be costly and wanted to love and care for him anyway.

My hat is off to you. What a wonderful person you are. I am in total awe of you.

However.... if I had a dime I could spare right now, it would certainly be sent to you! I wish so much I could help you out with the vet expenses but I have nothing to spare right now. So instead, if its any help, I at least send you my thoughts and gratitude for caring for him the way you do. He CERTAINLY does seem to be improving because of it.

I tell ya what though...as soon as I win the Powerball, there will be a hefty donation to you, Kris, Jane, Pam...everyone that helps these little guys out and pays so much out of their pocket to do so.

Wow- long day for Cody...

Poor little guy! I KNOW he will feel better after though and if anyone can make him better it is you Ce!! Send more pics soon! I just love seeing the little guy and Mojo too of course !! Take care, ann

Thanks for the update.

Large bill coming your way. Isn't that an awful lot to do in one time. Does the vet think it's to much on his system. I guess not or he would have said so. I know you are doing your best for him. I'll say a prayer for MY CODY.

Are you needing any more donations to help with the expense. I feel like he is mine and am willing to help.

Ce-he couldn't be in a better home

The love that your posts and pictures from your home radiate is wonderful. He will do just great Dr. Shaw is a wonderful vet and a kind man as well. We will all keep our fingers and toes crossed for Cody on the 19th =)

Thanks for the update, Ce.

I hope everything goes well for him. Onece again, he's lucky he has you.

yes he is going to check his ears..and as for the

swallowing...he really thinks it's all the extra tissue in the back of his throat...and feels that he will be able to control his tongue better and swallow better once he opens up the area a bit...poor Cody he's really in for a day of it..the good news is I'm not leaving the vets office till he can come home..so I'll spend the day there...thank you for your on going love and caring...ce

Wondered also about

the swallowing thing, did he have any ideas why he has the problem? He'll probably be better able to see down the back of his throat during the palate surgery. Is he going to try to look more in the ears to see if they are open down to the drum or scarred or other things, too?

Just wondering.

Again, let us all know if you need help with the vet bills, etc. We can all pitch in if needed.

Re: Cody health update...LONG...sorry

You have me in tears of joy Ce

Ce....also, is he doing pre-surgery lab work???

You should make sure there is a full blood panel done, just to know if there are any issues that might need to be known before having him go under for surgery.

Re: There's a few of us with RESCUES

I agree and would love to have an account for that reason, to help fellow bulldoggers andbulldogs in need of a hand up, not a hand out! I did mention this fund about a month back but there was no donations made to it stilll to this day so i did not persue it any further. there is a great need out there and to help those we know is always best! I still will provide 100% of any fund sent to me with the words rescue in the subject line to anyone in need if interested. There will beno popular choices get the funds, i feel anyone we know or anyone that has a crisis that some of us know would qualitfy and of course i would verify this first to protect the funds you trusted me with.
but i do like the idea! Its always good knowing where your funds went and get to see the results of there use!

Should be anyones choice....

Ce, I know you will not ask for help for yourself. You would rather burden yourself than feel like you are imposing. Allow people to help if it makes them feel good doing so.
Cody did not come from a rescue organization with all of his health issues already dealt with. Gary is right.
You have done so much already that many of us were not able to do. You have given this dog a home and more care and love than he has ever experienced in his life. You have spent countless hours with this dog to get him on his feet not to mention feeding him by hand and dealing with housebreaking.
I did not contribute to the purchase of Cody because I could not stand the fact that my money would touch the hands of pond scum.
However, regarding the care of Cody and being a part of the betterment of his life, I would be honored.
I couldn't put a dent in your vet bill with my donation alone but if others feel the same way I do maybe together we can make a difference.

I agree :)

yup! You're right!

re:

I'm just thinking out loud too. And thinking, for example, since I have a rescue, I wouldn't want $$ earmarked "just" for me if someone else needed it more that month. Ya know? And that should be for everyone, rescue or not, as some bullies have all their medical needs taken care of no matter the cost by their owners, when others would have turned the dog over to rescue if faced with the same expenses.... I thought I had read here about starting a fund, and the recipients would be determined by Webbie? Correct me if I am wrong. IMHO, and it is only MHO, , no matter how good the intentions, if $$'s are earmarked for specific people only, it can open up a can of worms. We're all to familiar with some of the backlash resulting from the whole Cody incident, and this is one of those situations that we'd encounter time and time again. (yes, by the minority and I'm not saying I agree with it, just looking at this from all sides).

If $$'s are to be earmarked for certain people only by the donator, it shouldn't be part of a BDW fund, it should then be sent privately via donator to donatee, and not use this forum. If a fund is gonna be set up, there should be criteria to be met, proof of need etc and a fair determination based on the above or something like that.

Dr Shaw and bullies

I have never know him to have a bullie stay overnight after any surgery because there is no one there to watch over them throughout the night. He knows they need to be with humans just in case.

He will be in the best care. Remember to ask them to write down the size of the trach tube they use so you will know for your own records.

Good luck to that sweet boy and please tell Dr Shaw me and Sumo say hello and send our best

Cody

Thanks Ce so much for the update. I find myself thinking of Cody several times through out my days. It is great to hear of all his progress and yes even his set-backs.... We all love him dearly.

A agree with you...

whole-heartedly. I by no means meant anything that might turn into a popularity contest. Just thinking outloud. I know in donating to a rescue org., though a WONDERFUL thing to do, you dont really know who is benefiting from your help, specifically. I personally, would rather see what I donate go to people I sort of know with rescues. TO know and see first-hand what kind of help Im being.

I think a BDW fund that is open to anyone that needs it here on the board is a wonderful idea and would accomplish that. I didnt mean to step on any toes, was just thinking outloud, wondering if a "closer to home" fund could be arranged rather then donating to rescue in general.

I see people on this board everyday who are doing so much for dogs noone else wnated or cared for. Just wish I could help them more. (Not just Ce and Kris, but everyone with rescues...you, Cindy, Pam, Jane, etc etc etc etc....)

we'll certainly

keep him in our thoughts that day (and every day) Hope he pulls through in flying colors and feeling better as a result.
