First off I'll start off by saying I did not contribute to the Cody fund. I feel and still feel a rescue situation should not put money into the hands of despicable breeders. Ever. That this person gained financially from this is disturbing to me.
I am blown away by the good will and nature of the people on this board. It is fabulous.
I am also thrilled to see this animal out of the conditions that obviously led to his poor and deteriorating health. If he passes this evening/morning, I hope he feels comfort and warmth that so obviously lacked from his life.
Cody, it is with tears and a lump in my throat that I look at your pictures and feel such rage welling up inside me.
Should Cody die, Ce and Kristae, I would surely hope we do not see it happen in vain.
More than $1,000 was donated for Cody to live with you, Kristae. Even when the money was still coming in, your May 7th posts were very clear that you and your husband would take on whatever Cody needed. Now he will be upended once again should be live. Yes, you are now overwhelmed by his condition but please understand that there are people (as coward as they are) who will be upset about this. I see their point of view and I do agree with them on a certain level.
Yes, Cody is better off. So is that breeder as of right now because s/he has $1000 in the bank and room to let in another breeding machine. Such a vicious, vicious cycle that repeats so often and keeps these people in business.
So what now?
I'm with you , Kris
and you certainly are in the trenches more than me with your rescues. If there was a right answer about what to do to put these people out of business, I'd do it. But knowing you could save one and not doing it, is hard to live with, too. I fear that Cody is very ill, more than the obviously visible things, with the fluid in his lungs. I just hate that it may be too late. I think someone is going to have to take this man to court over this to try to put him outof business.
To think how we pet over our bullies, take painstaking care over them, even get them because we like to take care of them, and how badly this dog was neglected. The other bullies there need to be rescued, too. But I have a feeling that this is all this man does for a living, right? He'll fight tooth and nail to keep doing this if that is the case.
I have a conflict
Here is what trips me up -
Should Cody and other dogs like him be left to suffer - their little souls in misery, so that we can get the source? Why should they be a sacrifice?
I have no answers, this bothers me all the time.....I just have to trust that God is watching and by prayer and meditation I take the right actions.

Re: Cody -- both sides of the coin
I resisted participating in the Cody situation for the very reasons Anna cites. And, until Deb's report and photos yesterday, I didn't even consider him a "rescue".
I've changed my mind.
Though Anna is correct that we don't want to financially reward despicable breeders (and I said the same thing), Cody's situation has brought the problem to the forefront and the troops are answering the battle call.
This could very well turn out to make a remarkable difference for many dogs.

so true
yes, we saved Cody, and that is a good thing, a wonderful thing.
But we also enabled that bastard to keep doing this to other dogs, we helped keeping him in business, we paid a man to keep abusing and neglecting all those dogs....we made him think its cool/profitable what he is doing, and he is getting away with it.
Its a catch 20/20.
And if we had pictures or another connection to those other dogs...as we have with Cody...it would bring it home closer, how horrible it all really is.
By paying to get Cody out, we contributed to the other dogs misery...plain as that. Now we have a responsibility to those others....and we should not let go.
We have to get them too....one way or another...we CANNOT let that man get away with this...i do not want to think for one minute that i paid that bastard to keep doing this to dogs.....the thought sickens me.
We have got to do something, please lets not just let this "fade away".
