Co-ownership???

Hi,
Can anyone tell me anything about how co-ownership contracts with a breeder usually work - what to look for, what to avoid, how it might affect price of the pup, etc??
Many thanks,
Laurie

Thank you

Thank you so much. - would you consider emailing or posting the key aspects of the contract you worked out - if this is asking too much, please forgive and ignore this request! - I'm just trying to be so careful.
Laurie

Make sure...........

you read and understand each and every clause in the contract. I have a bitch that I co-own with a breeder but I wrote the contract and that contract covers every aspect of the puppy's life. It covers the domestic arena, the show arena and the breeding arena. It outlines who has responsibility and who pays for what. No surprises, that is the key.

I agree with Vicky. You must be very careful with co ownership. I would not suggest doing it UNLESS you know the breeder well and what they stand for and how they do things. In that case it can be a great benefit to you, but in that case only! Also no litter back clause, just straight ownership or perhaps a puppy back (single puppy) for the right dog from the right breeder may be ok, but I must stress you should know the breeder well before doing it. My buldlog Sugar is co owned by her breeders with me (patti and john merkt) but i know them well. I also no how they do things which in this case was perfect for us both. So be careful! web

Pls be very careful....

Entering into a co-ownership contract can be very tricky. I have heard a ton of horror stories, this type of contract should only be reserved for professional breeders and respectable show people, for obvious reasons.

It's very easy to get burned by a irresponsible breeder if you do not know what your doing, some breeders may take advantage of the contract.

Just becareful...if you are going to do this please find a long time bulldogger who can guide you. Good luck.

I would not do this unless you were in a

close relationship with the breeder. This is not something you want to get in to with someone you dont know. I know of people who are getting screwed by some well known breeders. Look on the main page about the 424,000.00 bulldog. http://www.homestead.com/bulldogsworld/24000.html
