changes in behaviour on prednisone...questions???

So since Chester has been put on combo of prednisone and his thyroid medication he wants to hump me a bit. I am not sure if it is medication or need for attention...He is getting a firm no, but he seem very frustrated...oh, he is neutered, bu the way...
Anyone had similar experiences?
Do I need to get him a paid poodle?

Maybe?

On thing I noticed Frankie drinking more at first and now she's not.
She is actually on Prednisolone, which I still can't really figure out the "exact" difference but they are basically the same thing but might be used for different reasons?
Not exactly sure.

Maybe see if you can get them to lower the dose? That would probably help...or wear him out with the poodle!! wink.gif

Oh, he is still sweetie, just humping...

this is new, he used to be on prednisone before and nothing, but i wonder if this is combo of pred and his thyroid med.

LOL, Gary, he would take me to the cleaners...

he seem to have quite an appetite and his vet bills are nothing to sneeze on...I may have to give him a stuffed poodle for the moment...

OK, so maybe it is normal and will stabilize with time, LOL...

he knows what is OK and what is not, I just think right now he cannot help himself, LOL

Yes....

Frankie gets a small dose of 1/4 tab every morning for IBD...irritable bowel disease.
She's been on it for almost a year and doing great, but yes she does hump more.
She's always been a dominant female but I noticed she does it more now.

Paid Poodle?? Why not?!! ...that is funny!

Re:

I've seen some behavior changes while a odg is on Pred, although not as pronounces as what Chester is showing.
Another suggestion is to have his Thyroid level checked. One of my girls (now gone from old age) got a nasty attitude when her Thyroid levels went too low. When she was put on the correct dosage of Levothyroxine, she went back to her happy, sweet self.
I also vote for feeding the 2 dogs separately, then there is no chance of squabbles and you know exactly how much food each one is getting. There are 8 dogs here and the idea of free feeding them scares me silly!

I think the Pred does all

sorts of things to their psyche...and affects them all differently. I am a nurse and it definitely does this in humans...so, it just makes sense that it would happen in dogs.

****he is not aggressive...just uhm...romantic...

he's been with us for over year and a half so he knows what we're all about, this is just new behaviour and I wonder if it is prednisone with other meds...he used to be on prednisone before and never had "amorous" behavior before. But it could be just pining for attention...

It can definitely cause some aggression in some dogs

and when dogs are released to Rescue, its one of the questions that need to be asked...has this dog been on any medication?!! The polyuria and polydipsia (sp?) is quite common (increased thirst with resulting pee) and appetite stimulation in general. Sometimes this agitation/aggression shows in lighter sleeping pattern as well, so if he seems "jumpy" that too can come from this drug. I'd recommend just continue to be pleasant but firm in what you permit and what 'not'. happy.gif

Pred

I believe pred does cause behavior changes. I have noticed my normally calm dogs can become somewhat aggressive with the other dogs. Of course, they also caused an increase in appetite and urination.
