I could do the mashed taters and Blackeyed peas (no Fergie), and would DEVOUR the cornbread! YUM! I don't think I could do the jowls unless I didn't know ahead of time what they were. It's purely mental.

I make them on occasion here.. you just add water and salt and cook the crap out of them..lol and serve them with sauerkraut and mash potatoes... I used to live in a German Canadian city we ate them all the time as kids.. also pork tails too.. we had them lots too
thanks for sharing.. I needed a good giggle first thing this morning.

1. If it's green.....add pork 2. Cook it long enough and it makes it's own gravy 3. If it don't taste good...fry it 4. And last but not least.....ALWAYS add sugar, salt and butter!
Now...hog jawls....they are alot like bacon...the good ones you can get already sliced and even packaged like bacon...they are salty and very very yummy...it's a shame...that even here in the south...it's hard to find the good ones any time except around New Years...(cheaper than bacon)...
There's a sayin when you're raised in the south..."You don't throw nothin away from the hog, cept the squeal"...everything else is edible..hehe Now..I personally can't do the chitterlin thing....or the feet or ears...but some people love em...
Blackeyed peas are kinda like any other dried "bean"...pinto's, limas, navy, etc....you soak em overnight...then cook em to death with some sort of salty pork to season them...hope that helps...we must admit...healthy is not always the first thought when cookin comfort food.. but it surely is yummmmmmy!

LOL...now that's funny.....and with our crowd...there's not much
I translated it into 'Food Network'...
Hog Jawls = Crisp Roasted Pork Cheeks
Blackeyed Peas (not Fergie) = Frijol Ojo de Cabra
Mashed Taters = Pureed Potatoes with Butter and Black Pepper
Collards = Steamed Collard Greens with Southern Smoked Bacon
Slaw = Cabbage Salad with Creamy Dressing
Corn = Spiced Corn Niblets
and BUTTERMILK CORNBREAD! = Polenta Skillet Bread with Eggs and Buttermilk
This sounds WONDERFUL, either way you say it. I love Southern food. You can send me the leftovers.
