Love those pictures... especially the outdoors ones... What I like is the crispness of the focus in this lens and then all the blur... really makes the subject stand out!

No matter who I ask the answer is always different I am LOST without my camera right now. Between my 2 legged kiddos and my 4 legged kiddos I always have my camera in my hands.
I don't really do all-around lenses. I change mine constantly and really like primes (which aren't zoom - they're "fixed" at one point). I have a strange assortment of lenses that I change constantly given the application.
The 28-135 is a good one that I know comes as a kit lens on some cameras now. I bought mine years ago and it's served me well. I don't use it much anymore, but I am bringing it to a wedding with me tomorrow!
I'm sure it's rated for many more than that. My 40D stopped focusing and wasn't keeping up. It's rated for 85,000 actuations and I had 90,000. So, at least I got that much out of it.

I've taken at least 20,000 photos with it, so it's a matter of time before the shutter and other parts bite the dust. But as long as it keeps going, I'm going to keep it.

Where do you recommend getting camera and lenses... I have been on the internet all day and there seems to be about as many scammers out there selling cameras as there are selling bulldogs
I have an XT (350D), a 40D and a 5D MkII. That's what all my photos that you see are from.
The 40D is a GREAT camera... probably better than the 50D from what I hear. It's just a new version of the 20D and 30D.
Did your lens break too? If you have the 18-55 kit lens or something in that range, it will work on the next body you get. I highly recommend the 50mm f/1.8, but it's not for everyone. You need room to use it. But it's a great buy, and a terrific lens. But it can't be your ONLY lens. You need something else a little more "useful" to serve as an all-around lens.

so, if you got a 40D, you would be way ahead of me, and would probably get it for a fantastic price.

The 7D sounds pretty cool... The 50D would be the direct replacement for the 30D. You could get a used 40D pretty cheap, too.
You're not going to want to go with much else as it would be a step down from what you have. And you're not going to want to switch to Nikon since you already have Canon glass.

getting use to it, i want to zoom so bad but dont need to.
here are the few shots i have taken so far. I have 2 lens' the first one the apature is fouled so i have been told, but i can not see a difference in teh pictres, the lens' work 100% the same.

Gotcha... I think everyone has their own way of doing things...

I'm not really a good person to ask... =)

That is where my kids photographer said to buy from also ;)
Another question...
For a good all around lense... what do you use most on your camera?
I'm hoping it will last until the 60D comes out
I've taken at least 20,000 photos with it, so it's a matter of time before the shutter and other parts bite the dust. But as long as it keeps going, I'm going to keep it.

I only ever, ever, ever buy from B&H or Adorama.
I know way too many people who have been scammed or tried to be upsold... or bait and switched. Only buy from:

B&H Photo
Adorama
(Or, I suppose, Amazon.)
And these are also respectable places:
Calumet in Illinois
Abe's in Maine
Samy's in California

Re: That's a loaded question... =)
Julia's right! I got the 50mm f1.8 for Christmas and I love it....

If it's still working, Gary, it's a terrific camera!
And you have NO need to upgrade! I know plenty of people who still shoot professionally with their 20Ds.
But if you've worn out the shutter like I have on each of mine, well then... LOL

I'm still stuck in the Dinosaur age with the 20D, but it serves

What do you use?
Also... what lens do you recommend?
The most comparable replacement would be the 50D, or the 7D.
