Submitted by Anonymous on April 20, 2010 - 5:26pmDarn it! Diesel seems to be doing better but now the other two are getting sick. ARRRGHH!!!
I didn't want to put Diesel on antibiotics because he has been on antibiotics a lot in the last five months. I noticed for the first time his body was fighting it on it's own and I wanted his immune system to boost up. Unfortunately, the rest of the crew got sick. Off to the vets today to get antibiotics anyway. This virus is brutal! Make sure you do not take your dogs anywhere when they catch this virus. It is easily transferred to other dogs. Diesel was just vacinated a month ago and it didn't help him. Keep my fingers crossed he is ok to show in 2 weeks.

you'll be doing the meds thing like us I suspose...line 'em up and cheese rolled meds for everyone....
MoJo got it bad ..he took almost 4 weeks to be completely over it...our one springer also caught it...and with his meds zoomed throught it in less then 8-10 days...the rest of our yelps didn't get it...strange as that is...being they are all piled in here together....prayers ,patience,and hugs to you and your hug mugs......and many get wells...ce

I did a search on the antibiotic and it is the same as Septra or Bactrim, a Sulfa drug. Somebody asked about this the other day for a urine infection. It is an old antibiotic. My Abby 12years ago took it for a respiratory infection after Kennel cough vaccine a couple times with no problem. There were some links on that post in the last couple days to more info on it regarding use in dogs.

I guess it's "nigh on to impossible" (however you spell that expression) to keep it from spreading among family doggies.

New to the show ring...
I love it. I have always played competitive sports and this gives me just as much excitement without the exercise!LOL I also traded in the baseball bat for golf clubs and I traded in the bicycle for a motorcyle. I am quickly losing the battle of the bulge, go figure.LOL
I need to look seriously into agility. That should get me moving. The downfall is I don't have a dog that will get off the couch long enough to jump through a tire. I guess the whole family could use a life change.
Back from the vet..
They have kennel cough and are on antibiotics called Novotrimel. Is this a form of Clavamox? Oh well, my son has some company now because the dogs are grounded with him.LOL All doggie playtimes are officially cut off. I went in the office making sure there were no other dogs and the vet escorted us through a side door instead of going through the waiting room. This is doggie SARS! How long did it take for everyones bully to get better? I want to go to this show in two weeks but I don't want to be the spreader of germs.
