Bulldog FIRST AID KIT?

I posted earlier about Bubba getting his first bee sting, and I couldn't figure out why I did not have benadryl on hand prior this happening. Elaine mentioned that I should post and ask if anyone has any ideas or items that are musts for bulldogs in emergencies, anyone? Benadryl for sure!!

With a syringe (no needle)

At least that's how we do it.

I guess I was looking at the wrong one..

it had added ingredients other than the Diphenhydramine.

Well, there you go. A perfect list!

just print it out and go shopping.

just check the ingredients first..

the little pink pill has "25 mg of Diphenhydramine" and nothing else in it.

Yes, but she's suggesting the "Liquid" which has..

only Diphenhydramine HCl 12.5 mg Antihistamine (which is half of what the 25mg pill has.)

PLUS it also has
Phenylephrine HCl 5 mg Nasal decongestant

How do you give the liquid to the dogs?

I assume somehow with the dropper? Good to know. And I always have children's benedryl (regular) on hand.

Regular Children's Benadryl

does not have the decongestant...only the Benadryl-D allergy and sinus formula has the decongestant.

Re: What are these items used for?

Peroxide is used to induce vomiting. Have done it once, when this stuff goes in, everything in, is coming out! Best to be outside. A travel pack of diaperwipes, unscented is always helpful. I too carry alot of non-standard items in my kit, as we do rescue as well. The yellow listerine is a great funk cutter as well. Rescue remedy spray (oral) to calm anxiety. A couple of bottles of bottled water. What else???

Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.

My vet told me to use the childrens liquid also

We used it when pugsley was smaller, now he qualifies for the higher dose, we use the pills.
Good to know about the IDC remedies, those things are little monsters...lol

My Vet recommened it

And a long time bulldogger also recommened the liquid children's benadry.

I wouldn't recommend that....

Children's liquid has

Diphenhydramine HCl 12.5 mg Antihistamine PLUS it also has
Phenylephrine HCl 5 mg Nasal decongestant

Regular Benedryl has 25 mg of Diphenhydramine (twice as much as the children's liquid and no Phenylepherine.)

I'm not sure the liquid is recommended for dogs. But I don't know that for sure.

Also--keep an eye on expiration dates

Benedryl, eye drops and some of the ointments have expiration dates.

Check your kit from time to time and make sure everything is current for maximum effectiveness.

Children's liquid benadryl works faster

If you have an emergency, the CHILDREN'S liquid benadryl can be used. Also, if the dog's breathing is affected and cannot swallow, you can give the children's liquid benadryl in the rectum on the way to the Vet.

Eye wash is a good thing to have on hand also.

Preparation H

is on the lost and oten used to shrink down IDC's. I tired it one time on a rescue and it brouhgt out the puss deep down to a head. It then got so big and nasty i had to stick a needle in it and aspirate all the puss. It was gross. I prefer Epsom salt soaks or bleach water soaks for IDC's now.
I also keep nystatin womens cream in my kit if panalog or animax is not around.

In my kit i have alot meds i use for rescue which most people would not carry around but I think it doesnt hurt to pick up some antibiotics in the fish form and have them on hand- pretty much the same thing and if your on the road traveling it may be a life saver.

i also keep BNP or an antibiotic eye med around for emergency ulcers, cherry eye etc as well as Refresh or Genteal eye lubricant

along with all the other things mentioned.....

Panalog also known as Animax

is an antifungal antibacterial cream used in nose ropes, tail pockets ect...great to have on hand. I buy it by the bottles now and not the small tubes any more.

don't know what Panalog is.....

I know it is an ointment used for certain conditions, but I never had to use it so I am not sure...

Don't be shy to ask....this is how we all learn to take care of our babies the best we can! I have learned tons from this site just by reading the discussions going on....

Amber

oh....sorry forgot listerine...

the original brown stuff only....is a great antiseptic! Works wonders!

Lemon juice is for...

when your bully has excess phlem, you can use the lemon juice to break up the phlem to clear the air way....

What are these items used for?

Lemon juice? I heard of listerine for tear stains but what are the other uses? Thanks!

I would also like to know, I want to make

a full bully kit..lol

I have benadryl, and hear listerine can be used for many things, aswell as gold bond powder, so am going to get those, they are good for skin issues. What is good for emergencies, aswell as interdigital cysts and such issues. I love reading on here things to try before going to the vet. When Pugsley got his IDC, it cost me almost $200 for steroid meds and anti imflamatory pills and vet visit.
