Brindle color question

I have a mixed breed brindle bull, and she gave birth to 13 pups last night. When she went into heat my fence, and later leashes, were unable to keep her from mating with nearly every male dog in the neighborhood...three that I am sure of. She had four white, a couple of black, and several steely brown colored pups; much to my disappointment I didn't see any brindles. I am new with bulldogs, and I was wondering if perhaps the stripes will come with age like dalmations and their spots?? Any help is appreciated!

brindle

I have a bitch that was born completely black backed with white markings save and except for ONE fawn stripe. She is now predominately a dark fawn brindle, so yes the stripes can just appear.

Thanks. :-)

Mom and 11 of her pups are doing okay. We had one stillborn, and one died a few minutes after it was born. It was Buffy's first litter, so I think she did pretty well. Thanks for the info about the coloring. The pups are still very beautiful, but I am just partial to brindles. It's probably a good thing they're not, otherwise I'd want to keep them instead of finding homes. :D

This will be the last litter of pups she has, too. We are definitely making a trip to the vet after this!

I believe if there were going to be brindling

you would be able to see some signs of it at birth...I've never heard of brindling comimg in later..maybe darkening ..but not just appearing...
I hope she and the pups are well...and that your efforts to contain her succeed in the future...good luck ..and blessings to the new family...ce

Bitches in season

will attract males from miles around.

You should have made every effort for her not to get pregnant. It sounds like you didn't try very hard. I have a bitch and NO fenced yard. I always walk her on a leash when we're outdoors and she's NEVER left outside alone. She's been in season 4 times with not one breeding.

Good luck with your pups. I hope you find great homes for them all.

Please have her spayed as soon as she's done raising her litter.

thank s Patti....That helps me understand

...and is interesting,....
Fluff's mum was a fawn and white?I bet she was beautiful...Fluff sure is...I looked at her colors in last nights pictures..and she's like a wonderful watercolor masterpiece....smile..thanks again...ce

Ce, on brindling....

At birth, and for the first day or so, they can look solid and then you start seeing varied colors in the hair, especially when you rub the furr the wrong way.

My Ch. Lady Luck's Strip Teaser was an only puppy. My friend whelped the dam out for me because I couldn't take off work. She first called and said I have a beautiful fawn bitch. I was so thrilled because I had always wanted a fawn. Well, when I got down to see her and bring her home at about 4 weeks, guess what, there was dark brindling in her hair, and more came in.
It's ok, I was still happy with her, she ended up being in the BCA Brood Bitch Hall of Fame, and being OFA certified. But I had to wait for one of her daughters to get a fawn, one of which was Fluff's mom.

The same can happen with a dark brindle, it will look black or chocolate. On the chocolate color, it can turn red or fawn, or lighten with brindling.

really ...well I learn something here every day..thanks...

question just for my own knowledge...
was there some hint of brindling..you mentioned the one tan stripe.....which is what I though there had to be ..a bit of hidden lines in the fur or skin tones...even if practically invisible ..still there..no matter how minor...but some hint of striping...thanks ce

Great!

If that's the case, I'll have like four or five brindles. I hope so - they're my favorite. :D

well...

i really don't know much about colorings except what I see in my little pup. Half her face was very dark, almost black (as you can see in the pic above), and now it's turning all brindle. Go figure!
