Submitted by Vicki and Cami on April 21, 2010 - 12:33amBailey hasn't been herself this week, as some of you might have seen from my posts on facebook. She had a doctor's appointment today. We got home just a little bit ago.
Doesn't look like it's going to be good news. She's got some fluid build up in her chest cavity, but more importantly, the doctor found a large tumor on her heart. He said she could literally go right now, or she might hang on for the next few months... Her tongue is slightly purple and her breathing is a bit shallow, her gums are not as pink as they should be, but the good news is that he said that she's not really in any pain.
Even so, he would like for her to go see an internal medicine specialist next week, although, he said that he wouldn't advise that we do any surgery or chemo. He said that we'll do what we can to make her comfortable and when she's no longer comfortable then we need to start talking about her quality of life.
Even though she hasn't had much of anything to eat this week she's four pounds heavier. I guess it's all the fluid in her chest that is causing that.

I am so very sorry.... give her all the love in the world and keep her comfortable. Do all her favorite things, and just enjoy being with her.

did the vet Rx some medications to help keep her comfortable, such as diuretics??

I am sorry for you in this trying time
you have had the good fortune to experience such a wonderful love in your life. enjoy every minute of that and know how lucky you have had that, as so many others will never know this gift this lifetime. sadness is inevitable but wonderful times are ahead and great memories to share. J & T

Do you happen to remember how long Oreo had? I know that it's really not operable - I was told that she has a few months at the most, but that she could go anytime. He told me just to keep her comfortable. The tumor was almost the size of my fist.
