Today was the very first day of my new job. Everything was great until, my brother called me that something was wrong with Toby's left eye. So I was so freakin' worried! I came home and apparently Toby's eye developed an ulcer. And there is a scratch on the cornea. I have no idea what happened. He was fine before I left for work. Now he is wearing a cone cause he kept wanting to scratch it. Maybe the scratched cornea is from him scratching. Or something hit it. But eye is swollen and botton is red. I try to take a pic but he kept closing his eye.
He is on Meloxicam Metacam Summit (oral), BNP ointment for eye and ciloxan drops for eye.
Anyone here has this experience?
Help.

Gus was a puppy and that dreaded cone..lol
I had to hand feed him too
although he did find out how to get into a cookie bag and help himself..lol but he sure did not get the dogfood figured out..
I just hand fed him
good thing you caught it soon enough..it should heal fine..
Stella has had a couple
Usually gets them from overly enthusiastic sniffing under bushes.
The first one she got, we couldn't deal with with drops and ointments. We had to resort to debriding, where they go back and scratch the eye to stimulat repair. It worked fine.
The second was taken care of just with drops.

Sending get well wishes to Toby
and so sorry that this had to happen on your first day of a new job! WOW...bad timing.

I think you are in Canada (?) and some of the drug names you mentioned may be slightly different in the US, but an oral a/b plus an adequate eye medication, together with the dreaded-cone should help. I presume you are to return to the vet in two weeks for recheck...do that! If it isn't healing, another avenue needs to be pursued.
Get better soon, Toby!
Get well wishes for Toby...
I'm sure he'll soon be on the mend but this certainly was a stressful day for you starting a new job & having Toby develop eye problems. Best wishes for a better week ahead.

The vet said to bring him back in 3 days to check.
I just hand fed him cause he can't eat out of the bowl with the cone. I feel so bad.

Gus had a small ulcer years ago....
he was very tiny..
no idea how it happened
his eyes swelled up..and he looked worse then he was I am sure..
he had to wear that dreaded cone and he did clear up
does your vet want to do a recheck..
sometimes they like to recheck to make sure that the scratch is healed completely
I have had an ulcer in a pug here one time..
that did not heal well..
years ago and he ended up seeing an opthomologist and was on all kinds of drops..
before it healed and it did damage his eye..
so there you go
both sides of the story
HOPE that Koby heals fine
putting in the drops is a pain
but needs to be done
will keep Koby in my thoughts and YOU TOO.
the cone is hard for them to eat and to drink..do not give in..
LEAVE the cone on..
will be hard to do..but best for him
I'm sorry you had such a stressful day! I hope your first day on
was good other than the scare from Toby. It sounds like he's well looked after and will begin healing right away. Will keep him in my prayers. I hope you can get some rest tonight.

Maggie, Moze, Ollie,
...and always Schubert
you caught it early
which is good news. My boston terrier has had this in both eyes. The first time I left it too long and she ended up almost losing the eye and is blind in that eye now. Recently I caught it the same day and started her on the ointment from the vet and it cleared up.

Don't worry I am sure it will clear up since you got on it so early.
