Are frogs posionous to bulldogs?

Just let Boo out for a walk in the backyard. When I went to bring her back in, I noticed she had a frog between her paws. I had to struggle with her to get her away. But about a minute or two after we came back in, she started shaking her head a lot, then foaming at the mouth quite a bit. I grabbed some towels and quickly wiped off the foam and wiped off her tongue. She seems okay now, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this before. Thanx.

They are the same

Please read my post at the top of the page

Sound like Boo's okay. But I'd call your vet to be safe. Certain toads/frogs can be toxic to dogs and cause death. Pleae read my post at the top of the page.

Joanna & Sheldon

Boo's fine, thanx everyone

But what is the difference between a frog and a toad??

But what is the difference between a frog and a toad??

I've had dogs to

foam at the mouth and even vomit, but they were fine after that. I know some frogs are posoinous but have no idea which ones.

Thanx for the info

very interesting. This is the first year I've seen so many frogs in my yard. Hope I'm not in a Stephen King novel.

Frog...

I would call the vet Gary - We have these Boufo (spelling?!) Frogs out here and they release this oil and it can be pretty serious - it can kill small cats, it could be a totally different type of Frog, but this is the types of symptoms I would call the vet.

Re: I've always heard that but..

Gary,
Without knowing what kind of frog it was I can only say a general rule of thumb. Most frogs are not toxic to Bulldogs (Dogs) unless they were to eat the frog completely, then its a hard call. Frogs are part of theer natural degense system excret a foul tasting awful sceretion in hopes that its prey will not liek the taste and spit it out. Should be ok. Hope allthat helps.

sure it was a frog or a toad?????

cookie will catch toads like mad and they do make her foam at the mouth but will not harm her ---some frogs can kill....

She caught a frog, wow.....

I hope she is ok. Poor baby. I have no idea if they are dangerous. I hope not.

Do you have an emergency vet center you could call...??

..Ribbbbbbbbbitttt, ribbitt, ribbitt...!!

I've always heard that but..

I think the truth is that frogs have a very bitter secretion that they release from their bodies as a defense. I have owned many dogs in my life and most of them have bit a frog and all foamed at the mouth. Never lost one from poisoning. It's kinda like spraying bitter apple in their mouth. That's what I believe, could be wrong though. Someone else may know for sure.
