For anyone that has cremated their dogs - I need help

I'm getting really frustrated.

Baily passed away on the 5th - I was told that she would be picked up by the company on the 8th (they don't pick up on weekends) returned to me on the 11th or 12th. When no one called me on the 12th to pick her up I contacted my vet. They told me that she wasn't back yet, but that she'd be back "early next week" so, I called again today and she still isn't back and no one seems to know why. So, I am waiting for my vet's office to call this place again and find out where Bays is. They are supposed to call me tomorrow with an update. Does anyone think this is unreasonable? I've never cremated a dog before, but sheesh, she died on the 5th and today is the 16th and I still don't have her. ARGH - I want Bailey back!

What are your experiences? Have you had to wait this long? Am I the one being unreasonable? I told the receptionist today that I am starting to feel like they've lost my dog.

Lilly and Calli came back the same day but...

I actually took both of them to the Crematory which was only an hour away and waiting on them so they didn't have to spend even one night away from home sad.gif So sorry you are having to go through this with Bailey.

it some times as to do with.....

the weather....this seems a little hard to say but the oven has to go to a very igh temp...and when doing single creamations...they will wait till their are several...as in cold weather it cost alot to get the temps up....in a group creamation they so alot at one time...
sorry to be so hard...as this is a hard subject...and no one wants to explain it to a owner....

I'm very lucky...

I've had 3 pets cremated. My vet does it on premises so they don't have to go anywhere.

I'm sure you'll get him back very soon.

It was about 2 to 3 weeks for Tillie...

I'm sorry you're going through more stress, it is stressful and emotional enough as it is... I'm sorry sad.gif

Happy Valentine's Day!

Floyd died on Saturday night, got a call from the crematormium..

on Tuesday had Floyd back within a week after that.

I was kinda surprised how quick it was..........

[linked image]

As I recall the wait was about 2weeks...

I've had my last three cremated, and will do the same for Dale when her time comes...guess it depends on the company but one week would be surprisingly quick IMO. Sorry, I know its hard.

That is insane!!

The clinic I work for we have a less than 10 day turn around for Private Cremations. But we use an outside crematory and they pick up three times a week. If they have not followed through with their commitment you need to contact the company.

I paid $230

and I am not sure for what. I was so distraught. My vet said he'd handle the details, I just paid.

I would def.call the company myself..

my vet says a week..wondering if its due to where you live? Ours isnt too far off, but they only make weekly visits...
I hope you find out the answers and have your baby back with you soon...

much bully love~Christine, Dupree, Marley and Savannah

Vicki, I believe it was 2 weeks for Henry.

I got all choked up too, when I went to get him. I never have put him in an urn or anything. His ashes came in a white plastic box with a clear bag inside holding the ashes themselves. The white plastic container/box was kinda pretty and plain, and clean looking. I just never could bring myself to do anything else with them. I wrapped it in my favorite soft pajama pants and put it on the top shelf in my closet. I know it sounds weird but even though its at the back of the shelf and I cant see it from the floor, I know its there and somehow, its comforting.

Vicki..................

Again, so sorry for your loss and now this. I have had to do this four times.

My frist passed on Christmas Day. They came that afternoon and I had him back the next day in his urn.

Since then, I have had to have 3 more done.

If you don't mind, what is the cost....I paid 150.00 for a private cremation and urn. plus they picked him up at the vet and he was delivered to me.

It's best that you are in control of this situation even thru your grief. I hope this helps. Take care.

1 Day...

but I was able to research ahead of time and drove my boy an hour to a pet cemetery/funeral home and crematory. I wanted a private cremation and I wanted him back home a.s.a.p. I'm SO SORRY you have to go through this. sad.gif

Closer to three weeks, here...

It seemed like forever, too.
Many places wait till they have a certain number before they fire up the crematorium. Still, I would definitely call.
Sorry you have to deal with this.

It would have been easier if they set an expectation

of a week or three weeks - but I expected 4 or 5 days.

I know what you mean by the want and dread at the same time. That is how I feel, which is why I want to get it over with. I'll be happier when my baby is home again.

the same thing happened to me

with my percy. i couldn't believe how long it took. i also had an autopsy done on him cuz he died unexpectedly at 3 1/2 years old. so, i thought that was why it took so long. if i remember right, it was about 3 weeks for me. you're not being unreasonable, you just want your baby with you =(

ACK that is gross!!

Bailey's is a single so it better be just her!! I hate that we have to trust strangers for something this important!

Jez took about 2 weeks

I didn't really push the issue because Jez died right after Ike hit. Most businesses in our area were out of power for quite a while. But even with being out of power I think 2 weeks was about normal.

I've got too much experience with this

Usually the dog gets picked up from the Vet in a day or so, and returned within a week for me to get. I have driven a dog to the place when I knew there would be a delay because of a weekend or holiday.
Your wait seems excessive to me.

I would get the company info and call directly

instead of going through the vet.

For us it took about a week

We live in a small town...

I had to wait ~ 2 weeks or more to receive the ashes.

It took a while for me...

I think 2 full weeks at the least... Just for a reference point. sad.gif

I'm sorry it's stressing you out. I hope they can put your mind at ease and they're just delayed somehow. Is it possible all the inclement weather has slowed them down a bit?

I hyperventilated when I had to pick up Grover. I wanted him of course, but I didn't want him. I know the sense of urgency, but also the dread...

I'm sure they didn't lose her though. Hang in there...

Ten days to three weeks, and I learned a hard lesson too

. . . I always assumed that each dog or cat is cremated individually. I found out some places do group cremations if you don't ask for a private cremation. Thus, the ashes returned may be mixed, which IMO is an utterly repugnant practice. I don't think reputable services do that, tho. But just to be safe, always ask for a private service.

it took 3 weeks and the creepy thing was...

i just cremated my 19 year old cat, who was only about 5.5 pounds when he died... somehow, 3 weeks later, he came back 10 pounds of ash!

i was a little freaked out but what can you do now... i figure, maybe he will be less lonely this way, if there was or happen to be about 5 other cats in there!

i have 3 sets of ashes on my fireplace where i keep their pictures with it... i figure when i get cremated or buried, I will take everyone with me so we could hang out again!

i hope u will be ok, time heals all.
