almost too many, IMO. It can be frustrating figuring out which one to use, and may require a lot of experimentation.

Hi! I'm glad I saw this thread because I've also been struggling with soft poop and this Wellness post caught my eye. I'm currently feeding C.Natural Lamb and Rice puppy formula and the soft stools are still a problem... If you don't mind, I have a couple of questions 1) Which puppy formula of Wellness did you use--the Large Breed formula or the regular Supar5Mix puppy formula? 2) Do you mix anything into the Wellness or just use dry kibble for firmer poops?
I'd also heard that it's good to take bulldogs off puppy food after 3-4 months so I'm interested in hearing your take on this!
1) I'm glad you asked because I did have a runny poop problem when I first switched to Wellness. BUT, I was buying a formula other than the Large Breed formula. Can't recall for sure, but I think I first bot the formula you mentioned. I know "Super Five Mix" was part of the formula's name, but the words "Large Breed" were not also part of the name. Just by chance, the woman who was Boo and Clovis's trainer at Petsmart now works at the store where I buy Wellness. I was telling her about the problems I was having with runny poopy and she mentioned that her show dog had the same problem on that formula. She told me switched her dog (a giant Schnauzer - sp?) to the Large Breed formula and the runny poop stopped overnight. She strongly urged me to switch to the Large Breed. I did and it worked like a charm.
2) As for mixing other food in, yes I do. I am strongly opposed to feeding a dog, whatever the breed, nothing but dry food all the time. IMO, that's like Kellogg coming up with a cereal that provides 100% of all the nutrition, minerals, vitamins, etc., a human being needs. And then forcing one's child to eat nothing but that cereal 3 times a day, 7 days a week for his entire life. No matter how nutritious and healthy that might be, no one would do that to their child, or to themself. Even if they knew it would make them live a longer life.
Same with dogs. Variety is important to the quality of life. So I also buy the Wellness canned food. I will take a can and split it up four ways, putting it on top of their dry food. One night a week, I put fried chicken on top of their food. Sometimes I will squirt a small amount of Kraft EZ Squeeze Cheese on top of the dry food and then heat it in the microwave. They love the smell that adds to the food, and it doesn't take much of the Cheese. Once or twice a week, I will put a small amount of deli sliced turkey on top of the dry food. And about once every two weeks I will cook some ground beef and put that on top (they LOVE the ground beef, maybe even more than they love Popeye's fried chicken).
3) As for taking a puppy off puppy food at 3-4 months age, I don't know much about that. I only heard about it for the first time a few months ago when someone else asked that question. So I will have to defer to others, or suggest you discuss it with your vet, especially if your vet knows a lot about nutrition or can refer you to one who does.

only had good grains, and kept running into the problem of diarrhea or very runny stools. The Wellness Large Breed is the only one that did not cause that. I went through TOTW, both Prairie and Pacific Stream formulas, Innova Evo, Blue Buffalo, and some others I'm forgetting right now. The Wellness resulted in firm stools either on day one or within two or three days. Another big factor for me is that it is also one of the few dry foods I found that had protein products as the first three ingredients, and also had no wheat, corn, soy, or meat by products.
As for Flynn, I fed her the Puppy version until she was about 8 to 10 months.
The food I really wanted to put my dogs on is Orijen. But it is totally grain free and one of my bulldogs, Boo, developed seizures and started peeing in her bed at night time every time I put her on a totally grain free food. Two vets warned me off of dry foods that have a protein percentage above 30% because they said it can stress out the kidneys in many dogs.
Good luck. Finding the right food for your dogs can be a very frustrating experience. And what works for someone else's dogs may not work for yours, or may work for Bruce but not Jackie.

Flynn was younger (she just turned 1 last week). I've never tried the Simple Solution, tho.
Do you have any questions? My only complaint is the price. It's very, very expensive food. A 30-pound bag costs about $63. However, if you go to the Wellness web site and join their club, they will email coupons to you about once every two months that are worth either three or five dollars for a bag of dry food and one dollar for Wellness treats.

Onslow is on Simple Solution
he was on TOTW but started snubbing it so we switched. He eats every last bite and his poops are pretty firm. Good luck!
