another dog..uggetions

Obviously I have too much time on my hands today, just look at all my messages LOL
Anyways, I am thinking about getting charlie a playmate.,,
I have 2 other dogs, both toy breeds,,,they play with him , yes, but he cannot go all out with play due to playing with a 5 pd dog!
This will probably be the last dog I get, so I want one that will fit in well and be very healthy .
I narrowed it down to another bulldog or a french bulldog.
I am leaning towards a frenchie, good size with same bulldog attitude but I know how dificult they are to find esp a show quality one.
I enjoy going to the shows and want to continue with the new dog.
I have connections in the bulldog breed and I love my charlie, but not sure I can handle another crazy charlie around..very hyper and playful.. alot for a 60 pd dog LOL.
I have lots of time to find the perfect boy..(I want another boy)..so no great hurry.
I am studing the frenchie , talked with a wonderful breeder/handler so not to do the same mistakes I have in the past.
Any one with experience having both types of bullies?
Any suggestions?

Re: another dog..uggetions

Frenchies do not have a Bulldog personality, they are much more a terrier type.

That is a beautiful bulldog!

He is a winner in my book!

Re: another dog..uggetions

I have a (almost) 5 yr old bulldog and 7 mos old frenchie, both intact males, and (so far) they get along great. With my assertive bully, bringing home a very young puppy was necessary and worked out very well. They are best friends.

I sure hope you have a lot of time because a new dog to train, particularly a show hopefull, is going to take up a lot of it...and some away from the other three dogs.

Hmmmmm....

I'm not biased or anything (LOL)

but bulldogs do make great playmates for bulldogs.

But a frenchie can hold it's own against a bully too. LOL

Re: another dog..uggetions

I only have bulldogs, no frenchies here. If you do add another dog (bulldog) my suggestion would be to add a female not male. Have two of the same sex can be tough. Opposite sexes tend to get along better, not some much compettion especially if ou keep them intact. It can be easy when they ar eyoung, but as they approach adulthood, 18 months and older it can be a challenge. I speak from experience. Good luck with your decision.

Re: do you plan on showing Charlie???

charlie is being shown now. My friend/handler is showing him.. I have bad knees so the stacking i very dificult for me so right now she is showing him, I will try later.
I am hoping to get a pup that I do not have to go on my knees with.

do you plan on showing Charlie???

just curious...

might depend on if you are looking for another male or female?

why not invest in a dogs in Canada..book. it should be out by now and you can find lots of great breeders in there...
I would do that first and call some and find out what there thoughts are for the frenchies and the bulldog.

I would also call some of the bulldog breeders in there too

both of bullies..infact all of my dogs..have some show in their backgrounds..
found all the breeders in the dog in Canada and all were super helpful especially
if you show some interest in showing them

goodluck
