Daisy has been stung twice in her young 10-month life. Swelling and hives are exactly what happened to her also. We got her to the vet in about 10 minutes and they gave her antihistamine and cortisone shots for the swelling and itching. Her face was so swollen, you wouldn't have even recognized her; her eyes were almost swollen shut. It was a VERY scary experience, but she recovered very quickly after the shots. After the first sting, I was going to keep the Benadryl on hand also, but the dosage of the liquid was quite a bit and hard to get down her since she hates it. So I got an RX from the vet to keep at home for emergencies (benadryl and prednisone in pill form). The second time she got stung, I gave her both pills within 5 minutes of being stung. The problem is that it takes a while for the meds to get into their system and start working (unlike the shots which go to work right away). She swelled up again really bad before the pills got a chance to work, so I still had to rush her to the vet's office again for the shots. They told me that if I'm able to get to the vet's office quickly, forget about giving the pills at home; just get her there as soon as possible. The problem was they were unsure about how much vaccine to give her since she had already taken the pills (didn't want to give her too much or too little). So now I take the emergency pills with me whenever I take Daisy anywhere that I wouldn't be able to get to the vet's quickly. If she does ever get stung again, I will just take her straight to the vet since he is so close by. I'm so glad Angus is OK! I know just how you feel!

My Bullies are as important to me as my kids are...some may think that is nutty...but guess what??? I don't care! They mean the world to me..and I would do anything to make their quality of life as wonderful as it can be

i feel the same way about Bruno, my son thinks im nuts though! Im always bugging my son to treat bruno a certain way ---like its his little brother. He says mom he is a dog--and i say NO WAY!!!!!

We all worry about our babies, be them two legged of four! Glad Angus is home and will be better in no time! Take care of both the babies and yourself!

you know our boxer had a reaction to his last rabies shot like that, when i got home he started swelling , scared the you know what out of me! i am allergic to bees and have to cary a needle on me. bet it was when he looked in that plant for the ball, what do you think?
