An Angel named Cody...sigh....Very Long

I really don't know where to begin. Sort of hard to type through the tears. I know there were some on the board who felt a little funny about paying money to save Cody...but I need to tell you all. Make no mistake about it...Cody is a rescue.

When we arrived this morning...he stood all alone in the backyard staring out into space and never even turned around as we entered the yard. We thought it very odd...but then chalked it up to unsocialized and abused. No...if only that was it. During the course of our leg of the trip...we have come to the conclusion that Cody is most certainly almost totally deaf. His ears...his poor ears...are filled to the brim with solid black matter that totally covers the ear flap as well.

His nose...appears to have been frostbitten. Part of it seems sort of missing...it is all rough with bits of it sticking up.

His feet...are swollen. He has painful looking sores around his ankles and between his toes. Each step is taken with such care...he must be in terrible pain.

His eyes...one is totally clouded over and the other only slightly better. It looks like he either had an untreated eye infection or perhaps cataracts...maybe both. Pus is oozing from both...and his penis.

The combination of impaired hearing and vision has left him in a daze. He can't hear you...and can only partly see you, so he doesn't know what to do. If you want him to go somewhere, you pretty much have to carry him. (or hold a treat in front of his nose) How he loves peanut butter Mother Hubbard bones. And the lady who we picked him up from said he wasn't eating. He was starving for us.

He appears to be all infected under his chin...there's no fur there and it looks very irritated.

And the worst of all...as Ce was petting him, she ran her hands down the sides of his head and gasped. He has a tumor in the side of his throat the size of an apple.

And this angel from heaven...who had never been in a car in his life...rode like a lamb and didn't even fuss or struggle with the fact that we had to pick him up to put him in the crate in the back seat of a 2-door car.

While we were at the rest area...we kneeled down on the ground to console him. He laid that big, gentle head on my lap...I will never get over this. How these people could do such a thing to this gentle soul.

He rode in the kennel curled up with his head resting on the fuzzy toy that we had let Del Ray sleep with so he'd smell her scent.

He is without a doubt the sweetest of God's creatures I have ever had the honor to meet. I can only pray that somehow...someway....we weren't too late for him.

Sorry to go on like this...but I am beside myself.

Thank you all for everything you have done for him...and all the good wishes you sent to all of us.

I think we need to pray for him now...

We're recharging our batteries so that we can download the many pics we took of Cody. Will post them as soon as we possibly can. Some of them will not be pretty.

Deb

This is a horror story straight from hell

That poor poor baby, I was not home most of the day so only just now began reading about him and I go from crying to being so mad that I could literally kill the a$$ that let him get in this shape.

Please email it to me also...

Sue

This may sound paranoid or crazy but

is there any way the the breeder could have taken a different dog to a vet he has never used before? It's obvious this breeder has multiple dogs and since he is discarding this one and using "new ones" could this explain the vet check?

I've been watching to much television... Just trying to figure out how any vet would write their name on anything even remotely related to Cody's real condition to that of the fiction told by the breeder. Something sound very fishy and its hard for me to trust someone's word... I wouldn't put it past the breeder to do the above or make fraudulant copies of old vet reports then doctor them...

SICK!!

Agreed...

The sickness I feel is too much. I can NOT believe that someone who has obviously made a lot of money off of Cody (several times) would have the balls to then turn around and abuse him. Then when he discards him like a piece of trash that he would expect to receive money again for his callousness.

Gary you're the lawyer, what can we do to stop this behaviour from continuing. I am new to being owned by a bully and I am dumbfounded... I can not begin to imagine the suffering this poor baby has gone through. Thank God for Ce, the drivers and ultimately Cody's new family for opening their hearts. I only wish I would have been the lottery winner last week so that I could have contributed to Cody's cause, the many other rescues out there, but ultimately to webbie for providing this place to save the Cody's of the world.

Ooops I sent you the wrong one, the right on has been sent now..

"The more I know people, the more I love my bulldogs."

Unbelieveable, poor Cody

As I read your post, the anger swells up in me as fast as the tears come to my eyes. I agree that all should be done to stop this monster. How can you not notice a tumor on your dog? How can you not notice your dog has pus coming out of the openings in this body? How can you not notice your dog is having trouble seeing or hearing? HOW CAN YOU NOT NOTICE AND HOW CAN A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL NOT NOTICE? I am just so mad.

"The more I know people, the more I love my bulldogs."

Vets and Inspections..

There is only one vet in the entire town of several hundred people. Guess who does all the "c" sections for the breeder?

As for the USDA, I have no idea how abuses this blatant could fall through the cracks.

Once Ce and Kristae get home and we can all touch base...we'll decide how to proceed.

can you e-mail me his web site

Please.......

If he cared,

he could have used a clean tube of antibiotic ointment for $3.

His web site says and I quote......

"Our kennel is a USDA Facility and is licensed by the State. We are Veterinary Inspected and constantly monitored for maintaining a healthy kennel, and we guarantee our puppies for 2 years for hip dysplasia"

Obviously this is a lie or their inspectors are worthless? Or maybe accepting bribes?

I bet he hasn't even been to a vet in years.

Pathetic. No vet would see him like that and allow that man to keep doing this, particularly his eyes. Antibiotic drops are cheap. A decent vet would give them away.

Yes get the vet too.........

n/m

Wow... I never thought..

That he would have all those terrible & painful things... I am so happy he is in a better home now, and can actually enjoy his life. I hoope he gets better and all goes well.
What an angel!

Also, can someone get the info to a TV station?

Make a big splash with some kind of investigative report. Don't forget, the squeeky wheel gets the oil.

The vet should have his license taken away!

I sure hope everyone who had something to do with this puts up a big fight!
Emily

The "vet"

Is this just what the owner said? Or, did he give you a vet check from the vet? Do you have the vet's name? If so, I'd confirm that he had looked at the dog. If he did, then I'd report him, along with the photos and the new vet's documentation to the state veterinarians association. This vet needs to be out of busines, too. Sounds like he is too much in cahoots with the puppy miller.

I'm sure this will surprise you...

(being sarcastic)...this guy only takes cash.

I agree the important thing is to save Cody and then try our best to put this guy (and his vet) out of business.

Cody was supposedly given a vet check THIS morning...and the vet said he has some crusty eyes that were normal for an adult bulldog and some GUNK in his ears that was no big deal. That's it! Funny, no mention of an apple sized tumor in his neck!!!!!

There are no words for the rage we are feeling....

I AGREE, if you paid my check, STOP PAYMENT ON THE CHECK IMMEDIA

n/m

Splatter those pictures everywhere

to AKC, BCA, the Humane Societies ....

and let that bastard know it.

Please document with photos and vet's reports

I really think something should be done on animal abuse/cruelty charges. The only way would be to document with photos and vet reports as to all his medical conditions.

Also, I'm sure I missed on earlier posts, but did you pay by check? If so, if it were me, I'd stop payment on it immediately. The condition of the dog would warrant it, because he'll probably have that much in medical bills till all is well.

Yes, it is good he was out of there and a good home awaits him. But we can't stop thinking about the rest of the dogs this man still has there.

The owner was not even there..

when we picked Cody up. That is typical of the way he operates... He would never show his face. So our only choice was to leave Cody behind. That was not an option for us.

Cole & Deb

Already done...

See the pics posted above....there has to be a way to end this....

That is a horrible story.

He should be brought up on cruelty charges. That is not right, they do it all of the time on animal precinct. I am glad that he is in better hands and too hope we are not too late.

document EVERYTHING

take very detailed pics of everything, the inside of the ears, the infected feet, eyes, sores, privates, pics of him in his sorry state all over.....
Do NOT clean him up before that....
Then a detailed report from the vet, and then off to animal control AND the police, armed with all that evidence!
LU

ok....that is TOO MUCH!!!

I know it is not about money, but that is just crazy!!!
What in THE WORLD did that @#%$@% owner say when you picked him up??? Didn't you ask why he was such a mess, and how they could accept ANY money for a dog that is a medical nightmare???
I know the main point was to get him out of there, but it IRKS me to no end, that that guy collected $1000 (and wanted more) for a dog that he mistreated to the point of the dog being such a mess..
I don't know what else to say....good thing it wasn't me picking him up, i might have taken the money and shoved it up somewhere where the sun don't shine and don't know what else i would have done.

Poor sweet boy.....and some questions

Such a heartbreak. I am soooooo glad he is away from that nasty place and will be well cared for and hopefully live a long and happy life now.

I can't wait to see pics of that poor dear. I'm sure once at his new home, their vet will give him a thorough exam and will begin treatment on his many ailments.

This is truly my hard earned money well at work to help save this boy and while I'm beyond devastated they allowed him to get this bad, I'm happy that many of us were all able to help.

I missed many of the posts about him but IF this breeder/person is a member of AKC and/or BCA, I suggest those invloved in his rescue send letters letting them know what a poor excuse of a human they are and what they let happen to Cody. If they are not, send letters to the state where they live. This is surely a case of total and utter animal abuse if I've ever see it.

Will be watching for updates.

prayers for cody

I will help as much as I can to get Cody well

judykids's picture

How did you guys keep your cool

I know my hubby would have been all over those people. Especially after we did the money part and before we drove away. I would have had to pull him in the car.

I can't imagine how you felt and how Ce is feeling now .

Yes, he should be arrested for animal cruelty, not handed a chec

Hopefully

He has been saved in time. Prayers to Cody.

Even worse than that.....

he wanted $1500.00! So he used and abused him for years for profit and as if he hadn't "paid" enough with his abuse wanted to make more! He deserved a loving home, he should have been given to anyone who proved worthy of him and could give him that. It makes me sick that this monster of a "breeder" now has $1000.00 in his pocket for abusing this poor guy for years. He should be arrested for animal cruelty instead.

Poor little guy.............

I am in tears I feel so sorry for him and I am a little ticked off too, but at least he will be taken care of now. We will say some extra prayers for the little guy.

Thank you for picking him up.....that was really nice of you!

BTW, an after thought...I am sickened that.....

someone would have the nerve to sell him, especially for a thousand dollars.

Those people should have been more than willing to give Cody away to someone who would promise to take care of him.

I hope that Cody's old owners don't get away with nothing. If this dog was obviously abused, aren't other steps going to be taken?

Emily

me too.....prayers for Cody. n/m

My heart is going out to him

with hopes of some type of recovery. Our prayers are with him.

I am in tears!

What a touching run of events, I hope it isn't too late either.
