I have heard people saying that it "doesn't matter" that your dog is registered...Why not?? I mean if it is in fact purebred and you get your papers from your breeder,so on...if it doesn't necessaril matter, then why register? And how is it that you CAN register, but your registration may not be valid if the dog is found to not be purebred??? or was I understanding that wrong...I guess I just didn't understand the purpose behind the papers if you can register a dog and it possibly not even be purebred??!! And for example, let's say you get the paperwork from your bredder and your pup comes from CH lines and such, how would it NOT be purebred? How can the papers be forged?? and if all of tihs info. I speak of is understood correctly, then how would you go about finding out if the dog YOU bought is in fact legit, purebred,CH sired, etc????!!!!! hope that makes sense and thanx for your thoughts on the matter:)
I think . . . .
It's been over 6 yrs since I registered a pup and I'm not sure of all the specifics. I have Sumo and Libby's registration papers with all my important paperwork.

But, If you have a pure bred pup (regardless of the breed) and the litter has been registered or whatever breeders do, and you have the AKC registration papers to fill out and send in, do it. This is how AKC keeps track of the number of purebred dogs for each breed and it doesn't matter if you are showing, breeding or they are just your loving companion. Not sure what else they do with the info.
I also remember them wanting papers back or a letter once the dog has passed so they can adjust their numbers. I have never done this though.

Go to the AKC.org website and you can order it there it will....
help put your mind at ease. For $35 it is worth the piece of mind!
didn't know it was possible....
I mean I knew of DNA testing, but didn't know about it for dogs...I may just look into it...Again,I don't care cuz I love her anyways, but of course if someone is gonna go around fibbing about their pups just to sell them, I would think that there is some sort of punishment for that,ya know....Both of our dogs appear pure to me,but to dig deeper to find out "how so" might be nice:) thx
Why not order the DNA test kit from AKC?

Hello Diane and Mugzy!!!!!!
Yes so sorry to have heard and even though it doesn't look good right now, anything is possible...just stay positive, and we are here to help with that:).....I was just askin bcuz of same reasons ya know(as far as registration is concerned) cuz I was lead to believe that Kahlua is from a champion line,etc....So I wanted to know to just for my own GP's as to whether or not all that was true..I mean it says so on our paperwork and the family tree paperwork, but if AKC papers "don't really mean anything" than how are we to actually know???!!!! Keep your head up and if you need anything at all that I may be able to assist you with, please feel free to lemme know.....
Kahlua would like to send her slobberiest, wettest smooches right your way :D
Hi Melissa
Thanks for your wishes for my mother in law. It does not look that good. I will let you know.
Anyway, I had the same concern about Mugzy. Even though we got papers and I registered him, how do I know for sure that his mother is who the breeder says she is etc?
I ordered a DNA test kit from AKC which maybe can help me determine his parentage. I am not breeding or showing just want to know what I got what I paid for.
Talk to you soon!
ohhh I didn't pay more.....
I just know that that is how some folks do business...Don't know why, that's why I inquired too...I just kinda figured what a rip if you are told your dog is this n that(as far as champion, etc)and come to find out once you try to show/breed whatever it is that you wanna do,find out that those papers were wrong and your pup isn't purebred....cuz from what I gathered, you can register your pup cuz of the paers you were given, but that doesn't make them purebred...ya get what I mean?? maybe I am just confusing everyone and myself...lol...
If you aren't breeding or showing, you shouldn't have had to pay
I always thought you had to pay more for full registration (breeding rights) otherwise you pay for limited registration (you aren't supposed to breed), which should be less expensive.

well no I get that....
but same with me..we got the paperwork, haven't filled it out yet,but isn't that why people often charge more when they do breed or whatever..cuz THEIR pups are AKC registered,CH lines, etc???? If that is the case, why is it necessary to charge more if the purchaser isn't doing any of that??? like where we got Kahlua, supposedly she has a grandfather that was champion this n that..yadayada...why should I have paid more for her just cuz of that,if we aren't breeding/showing her??? and let's say we were to breed/show her,How do I know based on those papers, that she is in fact from where they say and related to those they say she is related to??
Well AKC registration doesn't matter unless you plan
to breed or show, Dixie is registered only cause we got the papers and it was easy to do online, Doughnut came from Colombia and has no papers but that has no effect on us as they are both Fixed and niether will be shown.
