About me - the first

As it is now morning in the Netherlands, where I live, I'll start this topic on request of Sue.

I'm Ineke, 43 years old, owning Bulldogs since I'm 14. I live near Rotterdam, studied law in Rotterdam and work now as a civil servant in Sliedrecht - home of the dredgers.

My first love was Winston, and we grew up together. I went to dogtrainingclasses with him, and got hooked. I learned to be a dogtrainer, and have been training people with all kinds of dogs (Bulldogs too).

With my second Bulldog, Charly, I managed to get the FCI-obedience diploma, as 2nd Bulldog ever. We learned so much about positive training and Charly lived up to almost 11 years.

Then came Lucky. He was such a special workingdog. He was like a policedog in the wrong body. He would track, find, kill dumbbells and toys, play like a demon and would always work! He loved obedience and pulled me into UK-obedience in which we did quite well. O yes, he would sleep on the coach, with my mum, I was there to play! Lucky passed away almost 2 years ago, aged almost 9 years old.

By that time my mum told me she didn't want a dog in the house anymore due to her age, so I decided to get my own puppy, in my own house: Zorro. My mum still walks him, but Zorro lives with me and I love it! He goes to daycare twice a week and has grandma visiting him the other days. We are training for obedience too and basically have a good time together.

Each time one of my dogs is getting to the end, I start looking around for another breed, but each time I bring home a Bulldog - because they are the BEST.

When I got internet I found Wonderfull World of Bulldogs, and when that disappeared I came here. So I guess I'm one of the oldtimers here and I lurk a lot.

Have a good day,

Ineke and Zorro

Dredgers and lawyers

Dredging is the art? of removing sand and stones from the bottom of the see and the rivers to keep them open for traffic.

The palm isles in the Emirates, Saoudi Arabia are made by dredgers. They pump sand from the bottom of the see and make isles with them. It is quite an industry, since the 1850's and it made Sliedrecht rich. Even in the 1920-1930 when the whole world was in a depression, Sliedrecht built rich houses and made new land on which houses were build for the dredgers (and the industry that helped the dredgers do their work).

Have a look at www.baggermuseum.nl (in english too!) and www.sliedrecht.nl

I studied and graduated in dutch law, civil law, but couldn't find a job in the field. So I got other work as a secretary and later at the city of Sliedrecht. I'm responsible for everything concerning housing (and monuments). It is work that has loads of law in it, I like it. It is very broad and interesting, lots of contact with other cities, houserental organisations, emergency problems of people who can't find a house due to all kind of problems. It pays well and the hours are reasonable!

Hi Ineke, what are dredgers?

I didn't realize you're a lawyer too. I used to work with a lawyer from the Netherlands.
