WRINKLES! HELP!

I know this has been asked before, and maybe I have even asked about it! But for the first time Otis' wrinkles had black gunky stuff around the edges and if I look in the wrinkle it looks really raw :( I was wondering what everybody does to keep the wrinkles nice and clean, how often, what you use etc.  I think I was slacking recently and thats why the gunk came, that won't happen again! However when Otis sees me with a tissue or bottle of any sort he runs and hides and acts as if I am torturing him..so that only makes it a more grueling task. Any info would be great!

Baby wipes (unscented) and diaper ointment (unscented)

My Stella's wrinkles were pretty good, but when they started getting iffy, I would go to town with some  nice cool baby wipes (I put them in the fridge, she liked the coolness).  And then a nice thick coat of diaper ointment (Zincofax).  Don't forget to do under his nose rope too - amazing what they can get in there!

baby wipes for sure...i was

baby wipes for sure...i was also told baby shampoo and water w/ a tad of peroxide

w/gentle cloth...and apart from zincofax...apparently canesten for itch and redness...

my archie had a few probs and infections so his groomer which i would take him

every 2 weeks would thoroughly clean him like that...hope this helps!!!

smoochies the scrunchy face

treat time + wipe time

Kippah used to slither away like a shy snake when she heard the wipe package. But now I get treats in my hand, and the wipes.  I go to the couch and we snuggle and play, and she gets treats and I use the wipes on her face, and her Hoo haw area  (as my daughter says)  and check out her paws, etc.

I am pretty sure she hates the wipes, I have to have them hidden in the palm of my hand when she comes inside after going potty, but she gets them anyway.

We buy 4 packs of wipes at Walmart, and get the unscented, aloe wipes.  much cheaper than buying single boxes, and then we have a package by the front door, one near the couch, one in both vehicles.  I dont bother with the boxes, since the plastic bags they have come with the little hinge lid with pop up wipes, and they dont dry out at all.  The brand we like the best are Huggies.

Yes I have to do the same

Yes I have to do the same thing..I keep the treat in his plain sight hoping he will focus on that and not me cleaning his face, however it still is extremely traumatizing for him (he's a bit dramatic). I also use a natural unscented baby wipes and put on some diaper rash cream afterwards. Thanks for the info!!

anyone use vinegar to help with yeast too?

Apple Cider Vinegar kills yeasties beasties

We pickle Gizmo's feet about once a week in (1)  Apple Cider Vinegar, (1)  Perioxide, and (2) water

(thats a 1:1:2 ratio)

You have to keep on it at first (to kill the colony) but then just 'routine' maintence :)

(ha ha ha @ Kippah's 'Who Ha'   LOL)

Interesting! I add ACV to Otis' food..would it be beneficial to wipe his folds with it too? It doesn't have a yeasty smell to it though..

NO

dont use it directly on the fold if there is any chance that the skin is broken, that would hurt like heck!  also too close to the eyes.

Apple Cider Vinegar

We use it and we swear by it....when I say WE I mean everyone in our house.  Apple Cider Vinegar has huge benefits for humans!

For dogs it helps with the yeast---Kippah has no issues.  It helps prevent fleas and ticks.  It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic.

Does not upset the friendly bacteria.  In turn that boosts the immune system, prevents common infections, and builds weakened immune systems.

It normalized bloods acid alkaline balance, breakds down calcium deposits in joints, and remineralizes the bones, beneficial for dogs with arthritis and joint problems such as hip dysplasia.

WIth the detoxifying properties it helps the dogs skin and coat, and can be used as a rince after shampoo (diluted of course)

It balances the digestive enzymes with can cut down on GAS as well

You start with a small amount in the water and build up, if you have a one dog home you want 1 tsp per 15 pounds of dog...again you have to work your way up.  Kippah and my other dogs did not notice at all.  We added a TBL per large water bowl (4 cups water or so)  and we fill that a couple times a day.  Now I freeze the yogurt in ice cube trays so I know that the kids are not over or under 'vinegaring'  We wash the stainless steel bowl in hot water, the bowl is hot when we add room temp water, then pop in an ice cube.  By the time it gets down to the floor the cube is disolved and the water is cooled down...if that makes sence.

Wrinkle wipes

Hi!  I have an Otis, too. :)

I mostly just lurk around here, but I can actually contribute something to this one, haha.

We have had some horrible issues with Otis's skin and wrinkles since we've had him, and the best thing I've gotten is Douxo Chlorhexidine pads.  They are about $11-$12 for 30 on Amazon, but what I usually do is pull the two layers apart and use half on his face wrinkles and half between his toes and around his tail, probably 4 or 5 days a week..

Thanks for the response! I

Thanks for the response! I looked up the wipes and read about it and they had good reviews. Do you know if it burns the skin if it is irritated? His wrinkle is kinda bald and red right now. I think I am going to order some of these and try it! PS- Your Otis is very cute!
