What causes Bullies to gasp for air?

We keep having these episodes with Gunther, and I wonder if anyone knows what it is..

Anytime of the day... last night was one, he starts gasping for air all of a sudden. It lasts about 20 or 30 seconds. I find he is breathing through his nose only, and makes these noises because he is trying to get air in... I always massage his neck, and I can feel the muscles tightening and releasing, tightening and releasing. We just tell him to relax and breathe..

I imagine it's a short nosed breed thing. Anyone else's bullies get these episodes?

Reverse Sneezing?

If thats what it is yes, I always imagine its like post nasal drip and they are trying to clear it.  Throat massage seems to help.

Seems like a good explanation..

I googled some videos of this, and it seems pretty close... So it's not dangerous??

I have an Olde English and then there is my man Cain....

and they both do this....not harmful at all.

gracie does the same thing

It's almost like she is hyperventilating......it's really scary!  I do the same thing as you; massage her neck and try to calm her down so she can breath normal.  I hate when it happens because it scares me!

Ernie had the reverse

Ernie had the reverse sneezing for a while when he was younger, what I read online to stop them from doing it is to lightly lay one finger over their nostrils and massage thier throat at the same time to force them to breathe out of their mouth and control their breathing... It took a couple weeks but it seemed to stop and he hasnt done it since. Good Luck
