Warning about chicken jerky

Ran across this warning on the internet as I've been hypervigilant since Oliver got sick. I'm almost 100% sure it was from eating too much peanut butter but I ran across this which was definitely scary because he have been giving him some chicken jerky treats for the past couple of weeks. They were from a pretty high end pet store that only sells quality products but sure enough after looking at the lable, some of the products are made in China. Essentially, there hasnt been a formal recall, but a general warning that chicken jerky treats from China have been associated with Fanconi syndrome in dogs where the kidneys arent able to work like they should.

Chicken jerky

I have been reading alot about the Chicken Jerky, as I have not found ANY that is not made in China in my area. I called Petsmart corporate and asked why they still had it on their shelves, as they pulled on brand a few years ago, but currently carry 2 other brands and have never pulled them. After several conversations I was told that the reason there has not been a recall issued is that the dogs died from the chicken jerky had one (or both) issues. a) they were already in poor health, with immune system deficiencies. or b) they were being fed LARGE amounts of the jerky, two of the dogs reported ONLY ate the jerky, no other foods.

According to Petsmarts corporate office they are educating their associates in the stores, and they are watching closely to investigations being done, but at this time the brands they do carry they feel are safe. I asked if she fed her dogs the jerky. She does not, but she has an English Bulldog, and Bull Mastif, and a Boston, and does not feed them any type of jerky unless she breaks it into very small peices. She also recommended NO rawhides or greenies (of course we already knew that)

I am still not buying any chicken jerky.
