Update on Hanna's Tail

Sorry it's taken me so long to give you guys an update! Hanna's tail is looking much better. The infection is pretty much cleared up. We saw another bulldog vet on Wednesday and the surgeon this morning. She got x-rays done and it turns out that its a little worse than we thought but luckily it wouldn't be too difficult of a surgery. As far as I understand, they have to cut off the tail bones right above the point where the curve starts in order to resolve the issue. It becomes difficult when that curve is very close to the sacrum (where the nervers are located). Her curve starts a good enough ways past that (thank goodness!). 3 out of 3 recommended that the surgery be done sooner rather than later both for her comfort and for her health (to avoid infections and overuse of antibiotics). So, we're set to have the surgery on April 6th. I'm both nervous and relieved. Just want the little squishy face to feel better.

On another note, he went ahead and did full body xrays to get a good look at her back and hips. Turns out her left rear hip isn't looking so great. It's only about a 1/10 in the socket and he antipates that it will give her some trouble as she gets older and heavier. Trying not to worry too much about that now because she doesn't seem to be having trouble with it but thats just another bridge for the poor thing to cross.

Thanks to everyone that shared there experiences and checked in on us this past week. We are forever grateful.

P.S. Sorry, Rick. For the time being it looks like we won't be headed north. But when we do you'll be the first to know LOL =)

ok so now you know...she sounds like she's gonna be fine b/c she'll be in good hands!

as for the rest...one thing at a time...soooo glad and relieved she's doing better!

smoochies the scrunchy face

Thanks for the updates ! ! !

I would recommend trying to keep her 'Light' as in really watching her weight -it should help in the long run (I'm guilty of giving Gizmo more than what she probably needs, but we are trying to keep her right at 52lbs as it 'seems' like a good weight for her- I'm glad you got the whole x-ray, while she's under for 1 you might as well get them all (we did that, and I forgot to mention it to you)  I was REALLY Hoping that she wouldnt have to go through the surgery, but, it sounds like 'its one of those things' unfortuately - we will all be biting our nails come the 6th of April right along side of you ! ! !

Thinking about ya all :)

Rick, Dottie, and Gizmo

How about a diary? since there isnt alot of info out there...

We had Gizmo done, before I found BulldogsWorld - and I couldnt find alot on the proceedure on the web with bullies - maybe a few before, during and after shots? and some general (or specific) comments on what's going on during the whole process.  I only got that 1 the day or 2 after the surgery. I wish I would of detailed her experience better, then we could of answered your questions better :) :) :)

Love ya Hanna !

Great idea!

I'll see if I can get some pictures of her xrays to keep for our records. When he explained it seemed so simple. Simple but unforunate.

I've been concerned about her weight until today. Like Kippah she's a little thing. She was the runt of the litter and the breeder suspected that she wouldn't be much more than 35-40lbs. When they weighed her on 3/17 (7 months old) she was 28.8lbs. All 3 vets think she looks great but it's still strange to me to see her next to other puppies her age. Looks like she will be my forever puppy.
