Ugh the heat, being sick and changing Rugby's food (advice needed)...

Hi BDW!

While is was tempting to get Rug's in a bathing suit yesterday, he is still recovering from pneumonia and I just couldn't do it (plus he still is coughing when he exerts himself)... I love everyones pics though!

So Rugby is finally feeling better after a rough day on Monday (we almost brought him to the vet for an overnight stay, but he rallied). Could he look anymore helpless?

So the heat... it has been obnoxious in NYC. Fortunately Mike is working from home this week so we are able to keep a close eye on the little man and ensure the apartment is cool. Rugby has taken to ducking for cover in the bushes when we take him out to pee... it's nice and cool!

On a completely different note we are switching Rugs off of his puppy food and onto big boy food! 1. He was getting bored of it (i.e. would only eat it if he had too), 2. too much protein 3. He is now 8 months!!! (insane how quickly time goes by.

We decided on the Fromm Four Star Grain Free line and have started to mix it with his puppy kibble. How long should I be mixing as he has started to work around the kibble to only get to the new stuff. I don't want to upset his tummy but at the same time, he has NO interest in the old stuff. Thoughts?

a week, some say 2 transition

25% New to 75% old, then 50-50 then 75-25 and then 100

I usually switch Gizmo over about a week (Depending on how she's eating and if she is loose or not) if she isnt loose then make transition a little faster is ok.

If its the same protein source, that will also speed the transition up.

You can also try...

adding a little plain canned pumpkin to help prevent any tummy troubles.  A tablespoon is good.

Hate to say, but I generally just switch.

But Sophia has a stomach of steel. I would say do a switch over a one week period of time. That should do it.

add a little pumpkin.   When I was feeding kibble I rarely made a change though.

okay, serrrriously---my heart is just melting over his wittle

sad eyes in the first pik.....poor wittle guy!!!.....but THEN.....SURPRIZE!!!   cutest, fun pik of him in the bushes!!!!  LOL!!!  :-)

Sophie and Meaty and I will say prayers that his pneumonia goes away NOW and that Rugby gets alllllll better!!

I have never heard MEaty or Sophie cough nor have they ever been sick....it must be very hard---(( HUGS ))...

......

....

About the food---arrgh, that's a hard one.  I will tell you that we go to a vet who is verrrrrrrry bully knowledgeable,

and he always tells us to just do the switch without the weaning process (we've had to change Meaty's food

a gazilllllllllllion times!!!).  I used to do the process exactly as long as all the sites/books tell you....but once he got

older, (and I wanted his symptoms to get better!!)  I'd do it  quicker and he's never had problems---thank goodness!--

And even tho our vet is  (mostly) wonder-bull, I still could never just switch Meaty "cold turkey" .....tooo afraid it would hurt his poor tummy

and cause diarrhea and who knows what else......
