Hi everyone,
Haven't logged in in a while, but I need advice, I am getting nervous! Titan, our 2 year old Beautiful, Strong, Lean, Never had a problem with anything bulldog... has a loud, popping noise coming from his back left hip. I heard it for the first time about 3 weeks ago, it was off and on, now, it's pretty consistant. I haven't seen him limping or favoring the other leg yet. I've been bending and pulling, his leg- no reaction of pain what so ever. Same thing when he is laying down... The words that are haunting me are, hip dysplasia!!! I keep reading up on it, and people are terrifying me with this. Should I go to the vet ? Should I wait ? Does anyone have any experience with this ?
Thanks,
Melinda and Titan.
Popping Noise
Are you hearing it when he walks? It can also be a ruptured meniscus; which is the the cartilage that cushions the knee joint. Is he on glucosamine and chondroitin?
Either way a vet appointment is needed.
Yes, I called, we are going
Yes, I called, we are going next week. It's only when he walks. He has no other problems, with his hips; he lays down flat on his belly, all legs spread out and apart... the kids call it the superman. He has never shown signs of pain anywhere else, the word dysplasia just makes me nervous.
yes only when he walks, and
yes only when he walks, and its not always. Just seems when we're out "walking" as in excercise.. around the house i don't hear it.
how is he doing today?
It might be something as simple as he's over-exerted himself and needs a few days of crate rest (only out to potty and eat) to help let everything calm down and "repair" itself. Have you given him any buffered asprin (or something similar) to help keep any (potential) swelling down?
I'm really praying that crate rest is all it takes to get him back up to speed, but please keep us updated on your sweet boy!

My swimming bully buddy!
He's doing good, great
He's doing good, great actually! He's up and moving, running around the yard, keeps scratching at the door to go outside. Like I said, he's not limping or anything and I only hear it when we are out for a excercise walk. I'm going to try and keep him grounded and settled down as much as ai can for the next couple of days (this kid doesn't stop, very active lol) and I will keep a close eye on it!
Thanks :)
I highly suspect
ruptured meniscus. The popping noise is exactly what we heard before Norbert ruptured the CCL and needed surgery. He never limped, just popped everystep he took. Vet appoinment is still in order.
