Hi!
I'm a long time lurker and once in a blue moon poster... I will be getting married in October in Southern CA, and in November, his family would like to throw another reception up in Northern CA for everyone who couldn't make it. I can't find anyone to care for our bulldog Angus Rose, and I'm not comfortable enough to leave her at a doggy daycare while we're gone. Angus Rose is about 5 years old and has bad knees though you'd never know it by her playfulness and running around.
Anyway, my fiance suggested that we rent an RV, take her along with us, and while we're up there visiting his family, we could either leave her with his brother's dogs (not comfortable with that idea if no one's around to supervise their play) or leave her inside the RV with the AC and TV on.
Has anyone done this before? I'm may be crazy, but I'm worried about someone stealing the RV or breaking into the RV to steal Angus Rose. (His mom will not allow animals inside their home even though she IS their grand-doggie.) If you wouldn't mind, would you share your stories (good or bad) with me?
Thanks for your time!
Barbara and Angus Rose
I know how you feel ...
I'm the same way, I hear the horror stories of someone having their bulldog stolen and I get even more over protective of my babies! I go places with my family and stay in my parents RV but when I'm not able to be in the RV with my babies I always have them in their crates and as my parents have 6 dogs of their own I usually have my 2 put in crates in the shower area of the bedroom where it is a little more quiet but also because they are out of view if someone was to look in the windows. As long as you lock up the RV and if possible keep her in a crate so she isnt peeking out the windows to catch peoples attention I haven't personally had any problems.
Congratulations on getting married and I vote rent the RV and take her with you :-)

We are actually camping this weekend in Malibu.
We bought a fifth wheel specifically so everyone could go with us 2 dog and 2 cats. Both dogs are crated when we go anywhere. I don't trust anyone to take care of them but me. Congratulations
Nothing but good experiences
We have travelled from one coast to the other with our bulldog in an RV. It was wonderful and we never once experienced any qualms. We have a 30 ft. travel trailer and she loved having the entire back seat of the truck to herself. Stop frequently for pee breaks and drinks and a little walk about, give her a carrot and she was good to go again. for the most part campers are very honest and upright people and we never worried about her being stolen. In the trailer, put the air on, leave her lots of water with ice cubes and off you go to do your thing. She was in 10,000' ft elevation with not a whimper. She travelled like a charm and now our new puppy, Phoebe is doing likewise. She has already been camping for three weeks this summer and she also loves it and travels well. I would not hesitate if I were you to take your dog and an RV. It is a beautiful way to travel. Enjoy!!!
Go For It
We just got home from an 18 day RV trip with all of our dogs. They love going with us and are always a hit wherever we go. When we are out and about and the "kids" are staying in the RV we put them in their crates and turn on the TV for them and they sleep like they do when we are home. No one ever bothers them. We have been doing this for over 6 years without any problems whatsoever.

Thank you all for your responses!!
It's great knowing you've done it and it worked well for you! I think I will have to let go of some hang ups and try it. I will have to reintroduce the crate to Angus. When she was a puppy, I tried to train her to use the crate at night, and she HATED it. She whined, barked, and howled when the lights were off. Wanting to sleep, I let her out, and she walked out of the crate, plopped on the carpet at the entrance of her crate, and fell asleep. She hasn't been in a crate since, and I've never had a problem with her loose in the house. LOL
Thanks so much again!!

Our bulldog loves the RV
We bought an RV just for our bulldog Annie since we would never leave her with anyone else. We first had a smaller travel trailer now we bought a fifth wheel just so she would have more room. Annie never wanted to be in a crate either and she did just fine in the RV. She also never traveled until she was 7 yrs so I was a little worried. One thing I would suggest at first is to play and tire the dog out before you leave them alone the first time. That way they are tired and content to sleep.Hope it works out.
