Off topic: We closed on my mom's house.

My mom left me a beautiful town house and I sold it to a couple of sisters. We closed on it this morning. Although  I'm glad to no longer have to deal with having it on the market, it's kind of odd not having it. It's been empty for two years and we completely re-did it. I should nave no sentimental connection, but strangely, I do. Not much of one, but just a little bit.

I'm going to use the money for my retirement, when ever that happens. I'm going to blow some of it on a visit to the eye doctor and maybe some very special dog treats for a very special bulldog.

Congrats on the sale....

Even though it must be bittersweet. I imagine you have more connection than you might realize...

In this economy and market, any sale is a good sale! Have fun buying those treats for that VERY special girl!

Congrats :)

I know in this economy that wasnt an easy feat, when we sold mom's house, we used an Auctioneer (BIG MISTAKE ! Dont EVER Auction something off!)

Auctions

I took a class on real estate auctions. It's a technique to get harder to sell properties sold. The class taught me that I never want to do that. The teacher, who used auctions a lot, was in to the rush of it. I'm no gambler. Gambling makes me stressed. It's not fun. Sometimes you'll get more for a home but I'm not taking the risk with my clients.

(I am a licensed real estate agent in MN.)

We saw BOXES of stuff go for $.25 :(

We had never been to an auction, and my sister was the 'local' sibling, as I was 100 miles away, so I left it up to her (1st mistake) she said she had this 'friend' (2nd mistake)

We ended up paying for the auctioneers to come in, look over my mom's place, itemize it, put it in boxes... and sell each box with for $.25. I was like  WTF !?!?!?!?  We got charged per hour for this that and the other thing, and we were nickled and dimed, they were only interested in selling the house, which they got another nice cut on.

Auction? ever again? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO (unless I'm the BUYER of stuff, never the seller)

Auctions

We had a company auction the contents that we didn't keep about a year ago. It was all on line and they brought in a good deal of money, minus the 30 percent take from the company. But, I was good. That was an auction, but it was more legit. Sorry you had such a bad experience.

Congrats!

It's hard letting anything go that even has a bit of sentimental value.  Considering it was your mom's house I'd say you've got good reason to be sentimental :)
