tear stains

Hello, Can anyone shed some light on how to get rid of the tear stains and how to keep it from coming back?

Other than that our lil Tank is 5 months now and we can't be more happier.

there is an article on the main page...

but I think its always a combination of using filtered water (kibby only drinks water from the filtered fridge! so spoiled!) .. metal bowl... finding the right foods that they are not allergic to.. then an occaisonal good wiping or her tear areas, keep it dry and clean, but dont clean so much that it gets irritated. I just use a warm wringed out wash cloth, no soap or anything. good luck!

I hear

I hear many different things.  I have one dog with a bad tear stain and one without, both are brindle on the other side eye.  At times they will both have a tear stain. Seasons of the year maybe.

Britta water filters may help.

I wonder about water softerers, as I don't have one here, but I hear they only soften the hot water?  Also where does the salt go?

You know when you see a Bulldog in the show ring, it's like seeing Dollie Parton, stuff is added on. like whiteners for white fur......[Show folks correct me if I'm wrong]

My dogs eat raw so....maybe not dog food?

Are the tear stains worse right now?  Maybe pollen and allergies........

I do know Angel eyes will get rid of tear stains.....it works, but most folks only use it till they find it is, or acts like an antibiotic.....But it does work.   It is not cheap, and I [personal choice] would rather put the money into healthy raw foods.

I do understand the need for perfection, but with 2 they kinda keep me busy, and I'm glad for dry non itchy wrinkles, so Wash and wipe dry wrinkles and maybe try the Britta.

Newman had horrible tear stains when we first got him...

we use the Britta filters and grainfree food and treats and they are completely gone.  It took about three weeks.  His breeder was so amazed, she switched all her dogs to grainfree and britta.

my experience with Gracie

She is white so you see everything.  she has a tear stain in her right eye that will never go away.  She has constant waterting of that eye. But.....it has definitely gotten better.  I only use Brita filtered water with her and I switched to grain free dog food and it has made a huge difference.  She has a super sensitive stomach so it's been a slow change.  She is now on natures variety instict dog food and I really do see a difference.
