My bulldog has a tear stain under one eye (the other eye has more brown coloring around it so it isn't visible) and it has gotten noticeably worse. Now if I look in the wrinkle by that eye it is a very deep red/brown with a little hair loss. I'm starting to get concerned and I have done some research. I don't want angel eyes bc of the antibiotic in it, and I am hesitant to put peroxide so close to his eyes. He eats Acana Ranchlands and gets a scoop of plain yogurt on his meals, and drinks tap water (we are in Chicago if that matters). I would appreciate any advice.. Thanks!
Our Newman had terrible tear stains when we got him and...
now they are completely gone. One thing we did was buy a Britta pitcher, they are not very expensive and we filter ALL his water through this. I think this helped more than anything. If he accidently gets tap water, I can see the stains coming back. We also feed grain free food, we use the fish version. I'm not familiar with Arcana, but if it's not grain free, try one that is. Hope this helps, it sure worked for us.

I will definatly try the water idea, that would be a really easy fix! Yes his food is grain free. Thanks for the advice!

If it's really bad, have your vet take a look at his eyes. A few months back I had SIssy at the vet and while we were there, the vet noticed that because of where Sissy's wrinkles are and how deep they are, that the hairs on her eyelashes were literally facing inward, poking into her eyes constantly. We took her back to have the eyelashes plucked (no anesthesia was required) and it seemed to improve the tearing. The vet referred to the condition as Distickia (I'm probably spelling that wrong). Cheapest procedure ever too, only 20 bucks.
Unfortunately if your dog has
Unfortunately if your dog has distichia, plucking is only a temporary fix as the eyelashes will grow back.
Filtered water
When Dreadnought goes to daycare for an extended amount of time or for some reason his water isn't filtered, he will get horrible tear stains. We have a Brita filter on our faucet and it works really well for the tear stains. We always know when it needs to be changed 'cuz those darn tear stains will creep back in on us.

I second the suggestion to have your vet look at his eyes. Beatrix had really bad tear stains (and very watery eyes) and it all cleared up once she had surgery to fix her entropian eyelids.
