Tail pocket troubles. Suggestions needed.
Submitted by Katie and Tucker on December 16, 2013 - 11:19amHappy Monday every bully! Tucker has a really sore bum right now. He has a very tight tail pocket. I can barely get my finger under his tail. It's been bugging him so much that he's rubbed his poor tushie raw. Any suggestions anyone has would be helpful. What can I clean it with? Is there cream I should be using? It's almost like he has a sore bum like a baby with diaper rash.

I use a lot of stuff on Buddy.
Aloe wipes to clean in there good and with a nurse type glove I put Neosporin with pain relief. After I get out any loose hair.
If it's not too bad I use baby powder in a bottle with a little flip up spout on it that directs the powder under the tail in tight places, when you squeeze it.
I also use mometamax I get from the vet....I add it to the neosporin if the tail is bad to boost the antibiotic content in the ointment.
I do these things from the least invasive to the most as needed usually only powder.

If you can get him in a warm bath...
it might relax him and you can get your finger in there to clean it out with shampoo. (we use Malaseb). I have a hand held shower attachment that I use to rinse it off, otherwise get a plastic bottle with a pointy tip and fill it with water and squirt it in to clean it. Afterward, I use a cotton square to dry, just wedge it in and out as best you can. If he's really tight, you can also use Qtips to get in there. He probably has hair and gunk that needs to be cleaned out. If my guys are totally raw, I use Desitin to clear it up and then maintain it. Once it's good, clean it once or twice a week, sometimes overcleaning can be irritating.
Dooley has a very deep and tight tail pocket. I use
BambooStick-Jumbo Cotton Swabs that I order from calvetsupply,com. They work wonders for cleaning out the pocket. I use Desitin and Gold Bond in a ketchup bottle that can be squirted into the pocket.
We use
triple paste - works like a charm. I don't have the tail pocket problem with my 2 (but I did with my last bully).. I also use the triple paste in their rope when need be!

I use diaper rash cream
I clean the tail pocket maybe once a week with a dry kleenex then I apply diaper rash cream. If it's really red and sore I will use triple antibiotic ointment for a couple of days then apply the diaper rash cream.
