We had a blast at the beach this weekend. These were taken at Ft. Fisher NC on a beach with 4 wheel drive access. Some fishermen were out and 1 caught a 4 foot wide stingray --- we stayed clear of him and his unhappy tail. Sergeant Major loved rolling and playing in the sand. however he didn't like the water as much as I thougt (he loves playing in the creek near the house). After the fun day at the beach we had a scare. He had got into something (we have no idea what cause we watch him like a hawk) we assume at the beach. Later at the motel room he became very labored in his breathing and was gasping for air. Benadryl helped, but not enough. We found an emergency vet clinic in Wilmington about 40 miles away (talk about a long drive I pobably speed some don't tell). They were the best! They took him right back even though they were busy and gave him a steroid shot that seemed to work almost instantly. Then we had to wait for about 2 hours while the vet completed a surgery and then she gave him a ok to leave with some meds to take later. Finally at 2:00 am we layed down to sleep with him laying and snoring right between us and me laying awake to listen to his breathing. Everybody is fine now although I am leary of taking him back to the oceanfront.

and I'm so glad everything turned out okay! whew! That must've been so scary!
OH wow, glad all turned out ok ! !
I wonder what he could of gotten into for such a reaction ? It isnt 'Sea Nettles' season down there is it? (Jellyfish type of things) - trying to think whatelse would bother a pup. . . or cause such a reaction.....
Last steps taken May 26, 2014 -- Been rolling along ever since . . . .
jelly fish
There were some jellyfish about and we steared him clear - however since I can't be sure what it was I shouldn't be so sure of what it wasn't.

I wonder if there was a jelly
I wonder if there was a jelly fish in the sand he rolled in, either alive or dead, it could have easily been hidden in the sand, and the smell would make a dog want to roll in it

Wow, what a day!
I'm so glad you were able to get to a vet who could help! Your pictures do look like it was a fun day prior to the allergic reaction (if that's what it was).
