separation anxiety

I have a 3 year old neutered male.  He was easily house broken very young with few accidents.  In the past 2 weeks he has pottied my carpet when i have left him.  He really isnt used to me leaving him a lot as I work at home.  On a normal day he usually goes where I go, but there are times when he must stay at home.  When I am at home he never leaves my side, this includes when I am getting ready.  He even lays outside the shower.  Any hints on how to curb this current behavior??

Why do you think the

Why do you think the accidents are due to separation anxiety, does he have any anxious symptoms?   The "clingy" behavior you described, I think, is common among bullies and not necessarily separation anxiety.  More info will help us help you :)

separation

When I am home he never thinks twice about not going outside to potty himself.  Lately the weather is too hot for me to take him everywhere.  I am first to admit there is a production on my part upo leaving and return which is not correct behavior on my part.  I know its not medical as he just had annual exam and Doc says he is in great condition.  He has never had any health problems, ( knock on wood).  So my only thought was not wanting to be separated??

If you are sure he doesn't have a UTI...

I would confine him to a crate or small area when you are leaving. Give him a kong with peanut butter or something yummy and leave without any fanfare.
