Rough 2012 for Lola so far
Submitted by Dgordon80 on January 2, 2012 - 1:22pmSaturday mid-day I noticed Lola's eyes and ears were starting to get pink.. as the days passed her ears were red and warm to touch.. I gave 50mg of benardryi and went to a NYE party, when we came home she had hives all over herself.. gave some more benadryl and she was restless most of the night.. about 5am she was out of control itchy, she was digging at the floor and her stomach was coverd in red splotches and hives. We gave her a batch in cool water with oatmeal based shampoo and had a rough night.. throughout the day yesterday the hives went away but not the red ears or pink face.. she then started to get nausea and threw her food twice and 3 more times last night.. she was licking her lips most of the day and just seemed all out of it.. I am not sure what she got into but no new food has been introduced, no new laundry detergent cleaners etc.. I am not sure how to tie the hives and alergic symtoms to the throwing up.. I am not sure but I did hit her with alot of benadryil in a short period of time.. this morning I called the vet and they recommended bland diet.. she ate her chicken and rice.. not intrested in her kibble at all.. she is using the bathroom and drinking water.. She was doing fine this morning and right now I can she her ears are starting to get warm again and pink.. we have changed our bed sheets and shut all the doors limited her access but at a loss.. Vet was packed today but because she was still eating drining etc he just told me to come in and get cerinia(spelling) for nausea and give her bland diet for 3-4 days.. her last benadryl was at 9:30pm 50mg.. I gave her 25mgs just now.. I know thats not alot but I am trying to figure out if the benadryil is causing the nausea.. I dont want to continue to drug her with benadryil especially since the hives are gone.. any way Lola says this is no way to start the new year!!!
Is this the 1st time Benedryl was tried?
Believe it or not, our next door neighbor (Human) is allergic to the RED Dye in the Benedryl ! ! there is another formula w/out the dye - I dont know what its specifically called though
Could that be it?

Cerenia is very good for nausea, we use it a lot. You could try a different antihistamine if she gets the hives again, we've used Claritan and also Tavist but make sure you don't get anything with a D for decongestant in it. It almost sounds like she got into something that caused the hives and then the benedryl didn't agree with her stomach.

Lola still is having these nausea/hive spells.. the cerena took away like constant licking and nausea but the hives just came back.. she has only been in the living room when they came back.. we have not used anything new on carpets, clothes, etc.. nothing in the world has changed that could have lead to this and if she got into something somewhere else 3 days ago she hasnt been anywhere since.. we have kept a eye on her since the hives started.. we treat the hives and then its nausea and vomiting.. she has been on benadrily all the time and hasnt caused her to be sick.. so out of answers and soo tired..no sleep in three days.. just gave her benadryil cause her whole body has bumps on it.. hopefully the nausea will not follow...ugh

There is no more hives but she is still suffering from a upset stomach, last night she was hungry but during the night I could hear her stomach bubling and gurguling, she wouldnt eat this morning and is soo tired.. sweet little girl probably hasnt sleep well in three days.. I think the worst is over just have to get her some rest.. no throwing up anymore which is good.. thanks for checking in
tums might help the tummy gurgles...
I don't think they could hurt at least...and it's extra calcium if she doesn't need them. Poor girl, I hope she feels better quickly!!
