this is a repost from the medical board: Fatboy has been throwing up

and dry heaving a lot today. I don't know what could be causing it. This morning he woke up in his usual manner; happy, playful, and ready to eat. He was fed about 6:15 and drank his water. Took him outside to do his business (it was dark out and he usually goes around the corner of the house because he's shy). Then about 8:30 he started dry heaving quickly followed by throwing up all of his food. He continued to dry heave for about 10 minutes. I had to leave for school but my husband was home with him and said he was fine throughout the whole time I was gone. I got home about 10 minutes ago and he was really excited to see me (jumping, wiggeling his butt, nibbling at my fingers), but then he started dry heaving again.

He still has no food in his system but his dinner time is coming up in about 20 minutes here. I can't get a hold of the breeder to see if he's experienced this before. Is it time to take him to the emergency vet?? I'm worried that he may have ate something (my never ending fear). He's otherwise very playful and whatnot....other than the dryheaving/throwing up and a phlegmy sound, he's fine.

Did he poop?

You need to know if he pooped.  If he's throwing up and can't poop that is the first sign of a blockage.

Can he hold down water?  If he is not drinking or is drinking and throwing it up then you must get him hydrated.  Try some pedialyte, ice cubes, etc.

If he doesn't hasn't pooped and is straining to poop, they get him to the vets.  If he is pooping that is good.

Try to at least get fluids into him.

Yeah he has been but it's very watery/loose. I'm afraid he'll

have to get his anal glands expressed if he doesn't 'toughen' up.    I bought some kaopectate but am not sure about the dosage I should give.

You can use immodium for loose watery stools and...

a tablespoon of canned pumpkin on every meal will also help.

Jack did the same a while back

After Jack had his second set of shots, he did the same thing. I still don't know if it was the shots or something he ate. We took him to the emergency vet and then our regular vet the next day.  They never found anything and Jack returned to normal after a day. But they said pretty much what Deb has said. If it makes you feel better, I'd take him in.

Maybe he was a little

Maybe he was a little congested, had some phlegm stuck in his throat. Do you keep lemon juice on hand? Quick squirt down his throat might do the trick
