FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 4, 2012
Diamond Pet Foods today announced that it is expanding a voluntary
recall to include batches of nine brands of dry pet food formulas
manufactured between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 due to
potential Salmonella contamination.
In April 2012, Diamond Pet Foods initiated three voluntary recalls of
Diamond manufactured dry dog food. Although none of the additional
products being recalled have tested positive for Salmonella, the
company is pulling them from store shelves as a precaution. Diamond
Pet Foods is coordinating efforts with federal and state health and
regulatory agencies and decided to independently expand the recall to
ensure the safety and well-being of customers and their pets.
The company stated: “We have taken corrective actions at our Gaston,
S.C., facility and voluntarily expanded the recall out of concern for
our customers and their pets.”
Brands included in the recall include:
* Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
* Country Value
* Diamond
* Diamond Naturals
* Premium Edge
* Professional
* 4Health
* Taste of the Wild
To determine if their pet food is recalled, consumers should check the
production codes on the back of bags that have a number “2” or a “3”
in the 9th or 10th digit and an “X” in the 11th digit. The best-before
dates for the recalled brands listed above are December 9, 2012
through April 7, 2013.

Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian. We do not have any confirmed reports of pet illnesses.
Individuals handling dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product. Healthy people who believe they may have been exposed to Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. According to the Centers for Disease Control, people who are more likely to be affected by Salmonella include infants, children younger than 5 years old, organ transplant patients, people with HIV/AIDS and people receiving treatment for cancer. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have received a limited number of reports of salmonellosis, the illness caused by Salmonella. We are working with the CDC, but due to patient confidentiality, we cannot comment further.

and people are afride to feed raw....why!!!!!!
more and more kibble recalls......now top of the line foods are affected.....its getting dangerous to feed our animals
Fear of the unknown I guess
and a VERY sucessful marketing campaign by dog food manufacturers making people think they aren't smart enough to figure out how to feed their dogs.

Actually
Good thoughts to anyone with this food. Hope for the best.
From what I read it's the owners getting sick from not washing up after handling dog food.
That is the first reason most people fear feeding raw, behind fear of change maybe. Wash those hands people..........
I guess I've turned into a snob, but starting with DE, I just won't give my dogs anything I won't eat or take, except vet meds......lol
Going this morning to pick up some ground beaver, ground turkey, ground beef supermix with green tripe, and ground duck. Good stuff. All farm raised, no hormones or additivies. The ground, I'll freeze into portions and give with their meals, as this stuff is pretty rich and would cause the runs if not given in moderation along with the bones and meat. I'd have to be pretty hungry to eat this as it's everything but the feathers and guts......
The reason I changed was the dogs would not get up to eat, they were too bloated and miserable. Now they come and sit at my feet at feeding time to tell me.
Mean people still suck
SO true!
"From what I read it's the owners getting sick from not washing up after handling dog food.

Some ignorant vet even published a statement in Reader's Digest about how feeding raw was a MAJOR health risk to humans...such baseless BS.
Delta Society banned ANY raw fed dog from providing therapy services, stating salmonella MIGHT be a risk, (they fully acknowledege they have NO conclusive proof, but they don't care. One of their 4 board members is the marketing president for a major dog food manufacturer. That is pretty sketch!) They do NOT ban dogs fed kibble, which has CLEARLY had so many documented cases proving humans got salmonella from the kibble.
I" guess I've turned into a snob, but starting with DE, I just won't give my dogs anything I won't eat or take, except vet meds......lol"
I guess I'm a snob too, because I don't trust ANY food made from human food waste products that can sit in a bag for YEARS and still not decay. I also won't feed my dog anything that's not fit or safe enough for the rest of us to eat.

Yeppers...Agree
Happy feeding raw. I know what I'm buying and what is going into their tummys. Everything we buy is grass feed, organic, human grade from farms that supply restaurants.
Diamond has had numerous recalls and didn't they have a huge melamine issue and dead dogs. Kibble can kill and we see it can have salmonella problems, but the dog food industry doesn't want us to know that.
Honestly you have no idea what is in the kibble and from some of the stuff I've read it is enough to make you puke.
Raw snob here...lol
Tonights dinner was duck and beef and MacKenzie had turkey and beef. Tomorrow sardines are on the menu.
