Hi all!
Maverick my 14 month old bully has been pretty obsessed lately with his "sucky ball" as we call it. I know some of you guys on here call it wobbying too! He NEVER did this at all untill probably a month or so ago. No he is completely obsessed. THat is all he wants to do at night, i even have to take it out of his mouth to go outside and go potty. THen when we get back inside he just runs straight upstairs and finds it once again. He will literally do this the ENTIRE night! The rather odd part of all this is he cries fairly loudly almost the whole time he is sucky balling! I know my parents bully harley has always been a sucky baller since he was little but mav never ever did it untill here recently and as soon as he started he was crying with it as well!!
I guess i was just wondering if any other bully took to it this late and especially cries when doing it???
Thanks all
Nick

It's kinda hard to explain,,,
It's kinda hard to explain,,, but you'd know it if you saw it. They take a ball and lay down and suck on it like they were nursing.
You might want to have his mouth checked
by your vet. Might be a broken tooth/gum disease etc. causing him pain.

what did you mom say about this?
Just wondering?

Mom here - I actually suggested he post on here
because even thought Harley is pretty obsessed with his "sucky ball" he never cries or whines while suckling. I have heard the sound that Maverick is making and it does sound like crying or wimpering. Nick says that at times it is quite loud. I suggested posting here as I know there are tons of bulldogs that use "woobies" and maybe others cry or wimper too. I also thought it a bit odd that since starting this Maverick seems to have become completely obsessed with his "sucky ball" to the point he wants to do nothing else. He even races in after being outside to find his sucky ball. Harley goes through phases where he "sucks" alot and then will go days or weeks when he doesn't at all. Even when he is in a phase that he is doing it, it doesn't appear obsessive.
Very curious if others whose bulldogs are fond of there "sucky balls" ever behave in this way.

Are you sure he's crying? Sanford "hums" when he's woobying...
And he didn't start woobying until he was almost 2 years old, and he's 6 and 1/2 now and still does it every night when at bedtime, or when we are on couch watching tv.. he likes to cuddle and wooby.
I really don't think he's in
I really don't think he's in any kind of pain so i don't know if i would call it exactly crying but it's kinda the best way of describing it, Well maybe it's more of a whine if that makes and sense at all?? Hopefully mom will just in here with a description since she has heard it over the phone ( yes it is loud enough to hear on the phone with a conversation going on!!!!!! )
pictures or video ??
I'm having a hard time trying to figure out 'Sucky Ball' Do you have a video or pictures of it?
Gizmo goes nuts for her Jolly balls, antler (newest), Nyla Bone etc, however, we have a closet, that we put it UP and out of view - We open the closet, she knows they are up there (lots of her favorite toys) but I guess she 'knows' she isnt going to play with (whichever) whiles its up there. We distract her, with another toy... or a LONG WALK :) Tires her out :) (Dottie is out with her right now) Gotta love the cooler weather !

Sucky Ball
Like a stuffed toy or stuffed ball that they suck on. It looks like they are nursing on them and many of them will kneed with their paws like they would on their mommas teat. It's pretty common for bulldogs to suck on stuffies.
Old video of Harley and his "Sucky Ball"

Whining
My Kohl is a huge whiner and so was my Norbert. Kohl doesn't use suckies... I know he would suck on one if he had one, but Ester would steal it and destroy it.
I would make sure he doesn't have any mouth problems (teeth or gums) like Lynn suggested, just to rule out a medical problem.
Try to video it.
Vern has a plush ball that I
Vern has a plush ball that I would classify as his "wooby", he sucks on that thing until its saturated. He too has been obsessive about it, but doesn't make any sounds. I can't help, but hope Maverick has just developed an odd behavior & that nothing is wrong.
kibby will go into a trance and her eyes will start rolling back
anytime she gets fixated on a certain part of a toy, usually the nose, or a hard seam, or the plastic squeeky inside.. she gets into her mode...gets stuck on it until she wears it down. she would do all day if we didn't snap her out of it!

oops , pressed post by accident... she doesn't whine, but
I have to take it away from her once she breaks in and starts chewing on the plastic.. usually I have to distract her with food or a new or better toy! sometime she kinda goes.. "mmmmmm ....mmmmm...mmmmmmm" when enjoying it, but not like whining ... she only has throaty whines when she knows I am making something extra delicious for dinner or when I brush my teeth , like when she is getting impatient.

Onslow sucks his blanket, He never cries
you can tell its how he relaxes himself before he falls to sleep. Hope its not a medical issue =/
