A question for those of you with sexy seniors

Or who have had one in the past.

How many times to do you have to take your girl or boy out a day?  Can they "hold it" as long as they did when they were younger?  About how many hours?

Stella is having some "retention issues".  We've ruled out a bladder infection and incontinence, and my vet doesn't really think she has Cushings although we haven't formally tested.  We're starting to think that maybe it's just an old lady thing...

Thoughts?

lived with a sexy senior

Her name is Miss Abby and she was the BOSS of the house when we lived with her.  :)  Anyway, it seemed like the old gal could hold her business FOR-EV-ER.  If it was raining, snowing, anything-ing outside...she'd walk out a bit, see the weather, and come back in even though she'd be holding it all night (or day)...and try to wait it out.

To be fair, she was only about 8/9 when we lived with her, but her mom (my really good friend) hasn't mentioned anything changing.  But I'd be willing to bet that if she makes it to Miss Stella's age she'll probably have the same issue.  I'm betting it's probably an old age thing.

Please give Stella a big smooch from me and Winston! :)

PS...here's a picture Miss Abby at her 9th birthday party :)

What a happy birthday girl!

Yes, Stella is over 11 1/2...

My Chloe lived to almost 11...

and she never once had issues with accidents in the house. I would suspect that like people they are all different and have their own predisposition or not. Hopefully it is nothing more than her age and that nothing more serious is happening.

I think it's common in older dogs

yes, all of my seniors have changed their potty routines. If you can't adhere to the schedule, I've x-penned them in an area with papers or pee pads down for them, works great and I don't have to worry about leaving the house for more then 4 hours.

Hugs to the ole gal

they get old and stubborn....

they get old and stubborn.... ours is 12.5 yrs old... I goto work 6am-3pm he holds it all day no problem.... he gets let out around 9pm and holds it til 6am no problems....... BUT between 3pm-9pm he will sometimes pee in the house just 2 hrs after being let outside!!!!!!

I know its old age, but frustrating, the bugger will now even pee in same room as me like it's nothing!
