Question about bulldogs and moving.

How well do bulldogs handle moving?  I know it can be stressful for dogs in general but didn't know if bullies are especially sensitive to a change in their world.  We'll be moving within the next month and I want to make Fatboys transition as smooth as possible.  Also, can anyone recommend a specific doggy door for a sliding glass door? Thanks!

Doggie Doors -

Check out Lowes or other big box hardware stores, they seem to be less expensive than the Pet Stores -

Lots of options out there, for Sliding glass doors, I think you need to put in a door through the wall beside the actual sliding glass (ya can't cut into the glass :P _

There are the ones with a collar, that only your animal can come and go etc.

Where are you moving too? I dont think you want a door that will let in the Freezing weather that we have up north, that would be pretty drafty.

Now moving - I would have everything moved and as set up as possible, then bring in Fatboy, he'll atleast see stuff he recognizes, and have familar smells, if you are moving stuff while he is there, he's going to probably go a bit nuts at all the action going on, and 'HEY that is MY stuff ! where's it going ! ! !)  Imagine a 2 year old human's reaction.

The last time I moved, I had 2 cats, and they stayed hidden under the bed for about 2 weeks, before they got too brave -

Good luck, and if ya are moving towards Delaware :) Let Gizmo know....

OH MAN !!!!!!!!! She did it again!!!!!! this SALMON Food is giving her  HORRRRRRIBLE Gas... *GAG* *GAG*  *Running from the room...

moving & doggy doors

Winston did not handle moving well at all this spring.  He hated every single moment of it and once we were in our new place he back tracked a bit in behavior (tearing up things that aren't his, not minding as well, refusing to eat at meal time, etc).  It took him almost 2 months to accept the new place, and occasionally he still has a "bad" moment where he'll act out (I think he is still adjusting to the noises of our new building and neighbors).

As for doggy doors I don't have any idea.  I know that the rescue group I work will generally turn down prospective homes that have and use a doggy door.  It's a concern that the dog isn't monitored when outside in bad weather, or the dog could potentially go out in the yard and either be stolen or escape somehow.  I know those odds are small, but I thought I'd at least share that perspective.

Moving....

No experience with the sliding glass door inserts, but we have moved a few times with Bulldogs without any problems at all.  They very quickly learned the new house.  Guess we were lucky, but they seemed to get used to the lay of the new house faster than us.  I  suggest that you just expect the best but be prepared in case special attention is needed.  Good luck!
