Question about breed standard

Hi everyone!

Quick question in the show ring is it a problem if the tip of your bulldogs tounge sticks out a little? Someone told me that was frowned upon but that particular person also has never done or even been to a dog show. So I figured I would ask some experienced people :)

Thanks!

good question

I will be interested to hear the reply.  I am going to guess that it is not OK.  When I showed Persians it was NOT OK.

The thing is that when you smoosh a face and it is SO shortened, and the tounge remains the same length WHERE do you suppose the tounge is suppose to go  LOL

I am trying to find out

I am trying to find out because I will be receiving my pup next week and I plan on showing her but in her pictures her tongue (just the very tip) sticks out so I don't know if her tongue sticks out like that all the time or it was just like that in her pics.

smoosh a face and it is SO shortened --- Not correct

this is actually not the case with bulldogs.  I have never read a breed standard for a Persian...but their faces are completely different then a bulldog should be.  The head should not be smooshed or shortened,  If it is then you have an incorrect head.  The head as well as the jaw should have ....  LENGTH AND WIDTH. A correct jaw should be turned up (curved, not flat) and the face should be at a 45 degree angle from the lip of the lower jaw back to the ears. You should actually be able to cup you hand on a correctly.  If you have a correct turned jaw there will be plenty of length inside for the tongue. When you see tongues hanging out it is likely because the head and jaw is poorly constructed and is too short.  Many times you will find on adult dogs tongues hanging out because of wry jaws.

Tongues

If this is a puppy it is more typical to see tongues then in a mature jaw.  Maybe because the tongue is too big to stay in the mouth, LOL.  Once the head and jaw grows you should not have as much of a problem of a correctly conformed head and jaw.  When you are stacked on the ramp and inline you should push the tongue back in the mouth so it isn't showing.  If a little bit is showing when you come back to the judge from the down and back then it shouldn't be much of a problem.  Some all breed judges might not like it but there is no mention in the standard that refers to the tongue (that I can find).

This is the section of the standard that refers to the lips, bite, jaw and teeth.

Lips--The chops or "flews" should be thick, broad, pendant and very deep, completely overhanging the lower jaw at each side. They join the underlip in front and almost or quite cover the teeth, which should be scarcely noticeable when the mouth is closed. Bite--Jaws--The jaws should be massive, very broad, square and "undershot," the lower jaw projecting considerably in front of the upper jaw and turning up. Teeth The teeth should be large and strong, with the canine teeth or tusks wide apart, and the six small teeth in front, between the canines, in an even, level row

Thank you so much for your

Thank you so much for your response I felt like I was going crazy because I seen it nowhere in the bulldog standards either and I read it like 10 times just to make sure I wasn't missing it somewhere. I know for the Frenchies it is not good. Can't wait to get my girl so I can post some pictures up for u guys :)

I have been told....

by many show people that if it is just out a little, like just the very tip it's no big deal.....I have a girl that has hers out all the time and it drives me crazy in the ring.....

I am hoping it is just for

I am hoping it is just for right now and as she grows and her jaw grows it will not be so bad. Thanks for the responses everyone I at least got some good information :)
