Our little guy is 6 months old and the past few days he will throw up a bit of his food while eating and without sounding too gross, it is full of clear phlegm. Not sure if I should see if this continues or make an appointment with the vet. He does sound a bit congested but then again, he's a bulldog and they do have their sounds! He does continue to go back and finish eating (wouldn't want to waste food!) and he is fine in every other aspect. Haven't switched food and he is on Taste of the Wild fowl. I have heard that food allergies could happen after awhile as well. Also wondering if pollen or other outside allergies might be affecting him. Just curious if anyone else had this happen.
try squirting some
try squirting some lemon/water from a water bottle it helps clear and loosen
the phlegm...and if it persists see his vet sweetie...also don't forget bullies are
brachycephalic so everything in that area is squished together...too much excess
everything...hope he gets better
smoochies the scrunchy face
It's possible he has an elongated palate...
our Chester just had surgery for that and it stopped the urping of food, foam and water. Usually they wait until they are a little older and stop growing unless it is really bad. Your vet can take a look at it, but they do need to be sedated for him to really see anything. Does he snore loudly or get winded when he plays hard?
Elongated palate ...
How old was Chester when he had the surgery? I'm thinking that's what it is with our guy. The vet told us that he would look at that when he was under and getting neutered. Our guy will actually be 6 months in 2 weeks and the vet didn't want to do the surgery until at least 6 months. He does snore loudly and gets winded when he plays hard so this is all starting to make some sense.
Actually, Chester is turning 5 next month...
He never had the classic symptoms of elongated palate, he didn't get winded or breathe loudly, but he did urp food and water and he seemed unenergetic most of the time. We found out he had a problem when he went into respiratory distress one night after a walk in the park and we almost lost him. He had emergency surgery and they trimmed the palate, opened the nares and took out tonsils and saccules. He's a new dog now, full of mischief and acting like a puppy. Had I known, I would have had his done much earlier. They looked at our other guy when was under for a lump removal and his is pretty good. I would bet the chances are your guy will need to have his trimmed. The vet will definitely be able to tell you when he's under for neutering. It's really not a bad operation, we had to keep Chester quiet for a few days after and fed him really soft food, but he did well.
Uh be careful squirting stuff down their throat
if it goes into the lungs you could cause much bigger problems. Just saying.
no you are right it has to
no you are right it has to be done in a very delicate manner...for sure,
but it was in a bulldog manual i read..
i've also read to give them
i've also read to give them water/lemon ice cubes...
