Please help- Baxter not doing so well :( *long*

So our 8 1/2 year old bully has been throwing up on and off for over a month. It started at the end of October. He threw up about 2 days in a row, then he was fine and actng normal for over a week. Then all of a sudden he started throwing up everyday. We noticed it was every time he drank water and sometimes after meals. The vomit was always very foamy and had a lot of very thick mucus. We took him to the vet, they ran blood, stool and x-rays, all showed nothing and sent us home with 3 meds. He still ate everyday, went out side and bathroom habits are the same but the pills didnt help and he continued to vomit at least once a day. We called a bulldog specialist but they couldn't see him until the 28th. Last night he threw up over 7 times within 2 hours. We rushed him to the emergency hospital and they ran blood and he puked 3 times there as well. Blood is fine- they kept him overnight. When the vet looked him over, he was feeling around his belly/rib area and Baxter winced in pain and started licking and the vet said thats a sign of pain. Today they have done another xray and sonogram and still have not found a thing wrong. He has been on IV fluids and they even gave him some water and he held it down. Now he is having his throat scoped and they will call us soon. What could be wrong with him? He has severe allergies but we always feed him the same thing (duck and potato natural balance wet food) I called the food company and they have not changed any of the food in years. He didn't eat anything that he shouldn't have. We are at a loss and so heart broken that we don't know what's wrong. They also checked for pneumonia and checked his esophagus and all were good.

Is there ever blood or

Is there ever blood or green/yellow looking stuff in the vomit?  If not, and all his tests have been normal, I have to wonder if there is something structural causing his problems.  When they scope his esophagus make sure they evaulate the stomach as well.  What medications did they put him on?  I hope Baxter starts to feel better, poor guy.

Never any blood or green....

in his vomit. Always white foamy if its water. If it's his food then his food is almost encased in a clear thick slime. The 3 meds we were sent home with were: Famotidine, metoclopramide, and metronidazole.

Thank you!

Have they checked him for pancreatitis?

What kind of meds are they giving him?  I know there are several antiemetics that work very well.

Ok Vet just called

They just did an endoscope and said he has an elongated soft palate but that he has had that since a puppy and lived with it for 8 years so she doubts thats what's making him throw up. (Ive never been told he has this before and he has been to so many vets, so sad it went undiagnosed) She also said that his esophagus was flacid, not as hard as it should be and either his throat or esophagus was swollen so they gave him a fast acting steroid shot. She said that at the bottom of his esophagus there was a small mass that wasn't obstructing the stomach but she took a biopsy of it and also took a biopsy of his stomach as well and is sending it to the lab. She couldn't say whether any of these things were the reason for his vomitting episodes. They are waiting for him to wake up from anesthesia and she will call me back tonight. They are keeping him on IV for the night and she said they will try feeding him tomorrow AM. So worried about the mass and what it could be :(

If its a non obstructing

If its a non obstructing lesion I can't see it causing the problems that Baxter is having.  He could certainly developed some esophagitis and maybe even ulcer formation from all his vomitting so hopefully the mass is something benign.  Give the boy a hug from me, hope he gets some good rest and feels better soon

No idea :( but sending my thoughts !

I hope he starts to feel better ! ! ! !  Please keep us updated.

What a puzzle...

When I started reading, I had some ideas... but you seem to have covered them all.  Sounds like your vet is doing all the right things.

Please keep us posted - I hope you can find an answer!!
