Pet Insurance
Submitted by bertsyt66 on September 6, 2012 - 6:18pmHello All... I am new to this site. We now have a 6 month old English Bull Dog named Edith who has joined our family. Our vet recommended that I join this forum to see if anybody has thoughts on pet insurance... expecially as it relates to bull dogs. My work offers insurance plans througjh VPI.
Thoughts and feedback are greatly appreciated as it relates to issues specific to bull dogs and whether or not you all would recommend that I sign up.

Get Insurance... it is 100% worth it
We have a 10 1/2 month old and we got trupanion when we brought Rugby home. It by far has been the best decision we have made as bulldogs do have more medical issues than other dogs. Whether its an allergy flair up, skin issues or other things, it is a comfort knowing that Rugs is covered.
I recommend insurance to every bulldog owner that I meet :-) Welcome to the boards, it is a GREAT place to get information as everyone is so knowledgable!
Have 10 mos old and have insurance - worth it!
Our little guy is 10 mos old and we were encouraged to get insurance right away when we got him at 2 mos old. We went to a local vet who recommended VPI so that is what we got. So far so good with it; however, our new vet who specializes in bulldogs recommended trupanion. We looked at switching but the price was higher most likely because we had claims already with VPI. All in all we've been pretty satisfied with VPI so if you can get it through work that might be the way to go. We've probably submitted 5 or 6 claims and have been paid on all but the soft palate surgery. Hope this helps!

I have Trupanion. You can choose how much you want the deductible to be and that will determine how much you pay per month (the higher the deductible the lower the monthly payment). I don't know what I would have done without it when Molly got pneumonia and was very sick. The 4 1/2 day hospital stay was outrageously expensive but I only had to pay 10%!

Definitely - especially for Bulldogs
They are a special breed and can have a ton of health issues. I think it's completely worth it. I have trupanion and pay 45 a month.

I am in Canada and used PetSecure. They were great throughout my Stella's life and, boy, did they pay out in her case!!
Register now when she is young and healthy, so they don't nab you on "pre-existing conditions". I registered Stella the day I got her :)
