Peeing in her cage!

Good evening everyone, hope you all enjoyed your holidays! I will have to upload some of the Christmas pictures i took of Tiny when I get home from work .. but I have a question regarding her cage/crate situation. She sleeps with me and she has not had 1 accident in the bed over night (thank god) .. She has peed in the house maybe 4, 5 times in over 3 weeks mainly due to my roommate forgetting to take her out so often. Every single time I put her in her cage she pees in it .. I have literally tried so many different materials on the bottom as well she just pees in the cage every single time. I have absolutely no idea why. Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so what did you do to solve it? Please let me know and enjoy your holidays!!

My bully is known to do this

My bully is known to do this as well. I would put his favorite blanket in his cage at night and he would always pee on it.  I found that if I didnt put blankets or anything in there he would not pee while in the cage. He is completely housebroken so I dont know why he does it. Perhaps the smell of the blanket or something.

1st things 1st. .

You will need to clean the kennel, and area around it,  and make sure you use sometype of product that has an enzyme remover in it - I personally like

"GET SERiOUS! Pet Stain, Odor and Pheromone Extractor"  We've used it, with GREAT Success ! (To the point it took out the Odor of 'Gizmo in heat 3 days prior to being fixed, riding in Daddy's car for 45 minutes to the vet" - not tooo pleasant ! ! ! !)    Follow the directions - I even put it in a spray bottle and used it as a 'mist' for the car seats etc.

If Tiny smells her sent in the kennel, she will think 'that is my place to go potty' - as you say, she always does it there. - Dont go sparingly on the cleaner (again just follow the directions) -

Now, what size is the kennel? does she have alot of room in it? if she does, she'll want to 'go' in one side and sleep in the other -  I recommend a kennel with an adjustable spacer - some call them Growth Stage Kennels - its a "Divider panel adjusts the length of the kennel to accommodate growing puppies"   a common mistake is buying a crate that is too large for a little puppy - the Growth Stage Kennels are great!  You want enough room for her to turn around comfortably, but you dont want so much room that she can move around too much (if this makes sense)

Feed and water Tiny - take her out immediately until she 'goes' -  Little puppies can't hold it too long -(someone has a formula, like age in months minus 1 is the number of hours a puppy can hold it -   so 3 month old pup should be able to hold it for 2 hours or something like that

I'm dont know your roommate, but if they are always 'forgetting' it seems like they dont want to be bothered maybe? and you might have to make other arrangements.

keep us updated :)

One of our guys did this and...

it is marking.  You need to just take everything out of the crate and she will most likely stop.

She's marking

Some of them just do that, usually females in my experience.  Take out her bedding and she'll stop.  For whatever reason, they only do it when they have soft, absorbent bedding in their crate.

I used one of these:

www.primopads.com

for about a year and she doesn't do it anymore.  Primo pads are nice because they are still soft, but they are waterproof and easy to clean.  They are quieter and less slippery than the plastic or metal pans that come in the bottom of wire crates.  I also use one of these for a male who is an aggressive chewer and would destroy any crate pad/bed right away....he even chewed up the plastic pan at the bottom of the crate when I took the pad out.  The Primo pads last for about 6 months before he can finally "dig" a hole through the vinyl cover.
