at times, I think (the cynic in me coming out)
We all know sport figures are paid WAY too much - but unfortuately that is the price of business.
Now the cynical part (and believe me I hope I am WAY wrong here) if you think about all the employees, the advertising, the big business to run it - all in the name of 'research' I honestly do not see why they (the businesses) would really want to find a cure, there is too much money to be made in raising money and too much money to be made in the name of research.
Now dont get me wrong, they have come ALONG way in TREATMENT of Cancer, but I do not ever see a 'Cure' for cancer.
I went through Testicular Cancer back in 1997 - when people ask me, how I am doing, I say 'They havent detected anymore in my body' but I do not use the 'C' word. I guess it goes back to my mom having Breast Cancer - she went through all the regiments - and they said 'She's Cured' she was 15 years 'Cancer Free' then how the H*ll did it matesticize in her bones? and she died of Breast Cancer that ate away her bones after 15 years of being 'Cured'
Lets face it, Cancer is simply a 'rogue' cell that mutates - if it happend once, it can happen again.
Is it right? no... Do I HOPE one day there wont be any Cancer? Yes Is it fair that anyone (especially little ones) faces this dreaded diease? no :(
Sorry all.... its only my cynicism coming out - I hope I havent offended anyone, but gave people another 'angle to think about' and by all means I am NOT saying to give up HOPE.

sadly enough, you are all too correct.
it is and probably always will be about money, the 'publish or perish' credo in research. however, i have seen a welcome change in the past few years. organizations like st. baldrick's, PAC2, and Stand up 2 cancer are collaborating with each other in terms of actually SHARING information between hospitals, researchers, and research projects! The Children's Oncology Group (COG) has been formed and are working together, doctors and researchers from different hospital and programs. workloads or areas of interest combined. unfortunately, it does take money. some institutions change their researchers 'rent'. the economy grants no free rides.......in my own experience, the people, doctors, and researchers i have met and worked with in my endeavors lead me to believe there will be great strides made in eradicating the monster and all it effects. collaboration is key and what i see is very promising!
conrats on NED and we will pray it continues that way for you and yours..........

I whole heartedly agree. My mom died 4 years ago of
cancer and I believe someone out there knows how to cure it but there is too much money to be made by not curing it.
I am very cynical about this, my Mom was my hero and it was a terrible death....
Notice there has never been a president die of cancer......Hmmmmmmmm

Peyton Manning Charity
BUT - You have to remember that these guys give millions to charity. So while you may not like the fact that he is earning those dollars playing a game, he is giving back to his communities and it's not coming out of your pocket, but the pockets of the sports enthusiasts.
Manningmania is also defined by an abused child finding a safe home thanks to Manning's $4.3 million gift to the county. It's Manning hosting 1,000 underprivileged children at holiday parties in Indianapolis, New Orleans and Knoxville, Tenn. It's two University of Tennessee students getting full rides from his own scholarship fund.
And it's a mother at the Indianapolis Colts' Lucas Oil Stadium last season holding up a sign reading, "My Child's Life Was Saved at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital."
fair enough......
i guess, in all reality, it is our faults for continuing to support all the pro sports endeavors as we do. i agree, many DO support charities. sadly, that is not the news we hear about very much. thanks for the 'BUT", i just get angry that these little lives get taken period.

Unfortuately most people indirectly support those sports salries
Yes, some of the Stars do contribute to charities - however - its the common man, buying common products, that end up paying for these outrageous salaries -
example
You buy TIDE Detergent -
TIDE once Sponsered a NASCAR team - which takes $$$ to run - where does that $$$ come from? the advertising budget, but where does that budget come from? the COST of what the public pays for the product - So if you purchase Tide, you are 'supporting' (Insert Sport here), becaues some of that cost comes out of your pocket in the price you pay for their product.
.
2nd point - If the US Gov't would elimiate the tax write off for Entertainment from big corporations, they wouldnt have the money to spend on the luxury boxes, 50 yardline seats, etc, the owners wouldnt be able to afford these huge salaries. -
Unfortuately the 'common man' can't even affordably go to see any sport nowadays due to the price (well watch it on TV - ahh... TV Rights.. re-read about TIDE and just insert your favorite TV Cable or Satellite company :)
Ok off my soap box.. .heading out to learn how to do a resume property :P

It makes no sense
I have to believe that God has a plan for it all and this is just one tiny part. Maybe there has to be some imbalance like this to happen so that people will take action. I'm sorry about Emily. I'll be praying for her family.
