O/T does this bother anyone else? or is it my quirkiness?

Watching the news 'Anonymous Sources Report the Sky is Falling, they wished not to be named, because they arent authorized to talk about the Sky is falling, but because they said so, its the news' (Looks up... )

'Speculators say the price of Gasoline will be at $5.00 a gallon' (Yea, this is how it works,  I'm gonna go out, and buy a boatload of gasoline, then i'm gong to report 'Anonymously' that the Speculators say gas is going up, which creates panic in the market, and guess what, Gasoline goes UP - and me, being the shmuck who bought the boatload of Gasoline at $3.00 a gallon, sells off my gasoline making a 'boatload' of money for myself.

Peyton Manning and the Colts going their separate ways 'Sources close to yada yada reported to ESPN, even though they arent authorized to report'

Ok folks, this aint a nuclear accident, public safety isnt at risk - cut the crap w/ Anonymous sources and putting it on the news -

Yoh ! you politicians with your 'Leaks'  if you didnt want it publicized it wouldn't be !'

The next time I'm told by Anyone 'Someone says' - Who is someone? Does someone have a name? Can't someone speak for themselves?

Hey SOMEONE if ya have a problem with SOMEONE else, why not do SOMETHING with SOMEONE to resoved your SOMETHING, preferably SOMETIME soon!

(Have I been watching too much George Carlin ?)

*Rant off*  Please continue with your regular scheduled Saturday programing

I think I understand...

Well maybe not to the effect you understand it, but in a nutshell you are saying..."You got something to say, say it and stand behind your words with your name"

Only in a perfect world Rick and as we all know it is so far from perfect I sometimes wonder what planet we are on....

Yeah. Good luck with that.

There seems to be more and more people afraid of speaking up, but after what happened to Sandra Fluke, I don't blame them. I was doing a story on how property taxes are determined in our county. I talked with an accountant with the tax office and got some good technical information. Nothing shocking or inflamitory.

She called me back a few hours later begging me not to use her name. He boss found out and she'd be in big trouble. Her boss wouldn't speak to me. This was not secret stuff, but people are terrified of the press. I find that strange since so many people will tell everything on facebook or other social websites, but then won't say anything to a reporter.

In that case...what do you do?

You know the facts from her, do you run the story 'sourceless' (my pet pieve) or do you just trash the story, because the person wants to stay anonymous ?

Could the technical info be found 'online' ? or via other sources that could be named? :/ that is what drives me crazy.   I didnt follow the Sandra Fluke story to closely not being a big Rush Fan - (like or dislike, I choose to ignore things like that)   From my understanding, she testified (?) in front of congress and Rush blasted her for what she said. (in a nutshell)

I guess I'm move irked that stories get run, without naming names on everything, its more sensational to have  a story 'Leaked' or to 'get the scoop' on the next TV Show or Newspaper. I'm not comparing this to a  Whistleblower, who goes to the press to bring light on something, say dangerous,

I'm talking in day to day news, from 'Gossip TV' to National Newsrooms.   Peyton Manning and the Colts was just the latest example. Comeon what is the sense of leaking that story? (other than ratings or bragging rights) there's going to be a big news conference the next day.   shhhsh

Maybe the whole process is the new 'norm'  *shrug* I dunno

lol....i have no patience for

lol....i have no patience for stupidity either!

Another Example - just happends to be football again -

"Sanchez, 25, had two years remaining on the deal he signed when the Jets made him a first-round draft pick in 2009. The contract extension is for $40.5 million, giving him five total years for $58.25 million, with $20.5 million fully guaranteed, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced financial terms, said the deal includes an additional $10 million in potential escalators. So, the maximum value of the three new years is $50.5 million, and $68.25 million over the entire deal."

ARRGGHHH I'm gonna pull my hair out ! I bet I can find 10 other examples just reading the headlines today !

I should of read it further - I like this QB now..for his quote

Sanchez also brushed off a media report after the season in which anonymous players criticized him and called for the Jets to make a serious run at Manning.

“If you’re an unnamed source, you don’t speak for yourself and therefore, you don’t really speak for the team,” Sanchez said. “So, I didn’t really pay it any mind.”

.

.

He sums up my feelings on the subject quite well
