okay, this is weird or is it?

We bought new chew toys over the weekend and Baxter was going to town chewing on this rope toy that has an antler chunk in the middle of it. Well, I noticed the other day some of the black on his upper lip was gone and I assumed it was from aggressive chewing. Could that be right? What the heck? Will it come back? Help!

Thanks in advance!

I would guess.....

Its probably rubbed raw from the chewing - Gizmo pushes around a large rubber ball...that after a little while, she'll get red faced (her face is white) we take it away for a few days and she is fine. Its probably just irritated and should be ok from my experiences.

Love that ugly mug btw ;) hee hee

Winston does the same thing!

He does it whenever he's playing/chewing his bully stick.  He goes NUTS over it!  It gets tossed around, "burried" in the couch and used in tug-of-war with The Dude.  When he "buries" it he sort of goes a little OCD and starts rubbing his face all OVER the couch...it goes on for 10-15 minutes, and all that rubbing he "rubs off" the black markings around his mouth...the first time he did it I completely flipped out.

But, it'll scab over and in about 10-14 days the scab falls off and the "black is back." :)  If I catch him rubbing too much, or notice that he's given himself the sores I take the toy away until he's all healed...and the cycle repeats. :)  Here's a pic of him over the summer swimming, but you can see the two little "bald" spots from the rubbing.

and here's a pic of him recently trying to wedge his way on to "his" chair in the living room that I happened to be sitting on.  The black is just fine.

What's a bully stick?

Its a part of a Bull (Cow)  that... ahhem....  well.... yea..

"

Well then!!! Lol

You are one brave soul for sharing that tidbit!! Thank you! Who knew?? I will have to look into them.

(and here my naive self was thinking bulldogs are so special they make special treats for them...I thought maybe with the way their jaw is...I was way off for sure!)

:)

bully sticks provide the nice long lasting chewing that a rawhide does without the dangers that a rawhide presents to bulldogs. :)  Don't buy a bully stick from the major chain stores (they aren't really the "real" deal...if you know what I mean).  You'll have to find them at a natural pet food/supply store.  Winston (and other non-bullies I know) go NUTS for them. :)

My swimming bully buddy!

awesome website!

Okay, so while I resorted to giggling like a 12 year old reading the website that you provided, they do seem like an awesome treat. Do you buy just the regular ones or the odor free?
