I know other people from Texas have been coming here for hay. Try posting on Craigslist maybe in Little Rock. The hay crops here weren't great since it was very dry but, there may be some available.

But I don't trust people I don't know! LOL! That's why I posted here, I know everyone! I actually asked you in a post below if you knew anyone....I trust you to tell me if they are honest or not:-)
We are ok for right now and I pray for rain in the srping to get us enough grass on our ground at least through half the summer. It is the other half of the summer and next winter that scares the bugs out of me. This winter will be tough, but not nearly what next winter is going to be if this drought lasts.

But sold all of our cattle last Spring. We're getting plenty of rain right now but the weather isn't good for growing hay. I will ask around and see if anyone has any good hay.
I saw my neighbor hauling in some horrible moldy looking hay the other day and I hope that's not all that's available right now.

I bought a bale about 7 weeks ago. It is still sitting almost fully intact right where I dropped it. Not even my donkeys would eat it. I am buying a bale tomorrow of last years hay, it looks pretty good though and the grower is well known here. After this batch is gone in two or three weeks, it is down to square bales for me. Ugh! I will go through two 100lb bales of hay daily feeding those. They cost 21.95 right now, they did cost 14.95 all year up until about the beginning of September. Rotten gougers anyway.

Are you looking for a specific type of hay?
I have a lot of family who are farmers here in Kansas (both the eastern portion where I live & the west side of the state). I can get you hay here, just need to know what you're looking for & your price point & I can start finding it. If we're too far north, I'll totally understand, but please don't give in to the gougers!

I am looking for good horse quality hay. I prefer Coastal Bermuda, Brohme or Timothy or any of those mixed, and will take any alfalfa mixes as well. As long as it is good quality horse hay I will be fine. I really would love to find round bales. I will pay what they are selling for, but would appreciate not being gouged on price just because we are desperate! You wouldn't believe the price of hay here right now, unbelieveable!! In June I was paying $55 per round bale. In July, it went to $80 per, then jumped to 110 per, now it is 120-160 per bale, depending on who is selling it. Unreal.

I'll put the word out. My best friend's mother-in-law is very involved in all things horse related. She actually just bought a horse for my friend's 9 year old daughter...her very own horse! (and yes, I'm jealous)
I'll message you privately once I hear back from a few people and we can go from there. :)

My friend is actually planning to go help haul hay with her mother-in-law next weekend! She said the guy they buy from charges $2-3 per bale (I'm assuming square) depending on whether it's brohme or timothy.
She's calling her mother in law tonight to see if he has extra and what he charges. My friend also reminded me of a stable close that might have extra hay, or at least be able to give me the names/contact info for their providers. I'll let you know what they say.
At the very least, it seems the price is about right...
I'll ask around
