OK, need some suggestions

Kippah graduates from her Intermediate class next Wednesday.  The assignment this week for homework is to learn a trick, so they can learn new things that are not always obiedience but also fun things too...........sounds simple enough, right?

But I cannot decide what to teach her, and we only have 7 days to work on it.  I did pick up the Bed Bath and Beyond toy that they learn to slide the door open to get their treat, and she played with that a little last night, she did get 3 of them open.  But I was thinking of maybe something else that I could teach her and she could use for a long time......pick up your toys.........go get Mom a blankie.....something like that

Anyone have great success teaching a trick, and care to share the steps so we can have a quick success with this.

As far as her classes go she is doing really good, but with Thanksgiving and Christmas I just don't feel like she got as much out of this class as she could have, we are thinking about a 'do over' before we move to the next one.

The next class is the prep work to take the CGC.  I think she might do better if we wait till she is at least 8-10 months old to do that, any opinions? She started classes when she was 12 weeks old and she really does seem to enjoy going to them.

The trick that always impresses me is

When Dolly jumps through her hoop.  It's SO cute.  Do you have a hoola hoop?  I imagine it's pretty easy to get them to walk through at first just with a treat and then to slowly lift it to make them jump.  Dolly jumps pretty high now!

Maybe Judy can post a pic!!

My favorite (brings back fond memories)

Ya have Kippah sit -

Point your finger (like a gun) and say 'BANG'

Teach Kippah to fall over and 'play dead'

:)

Have him balance a treat on his nose, then snatch it when...

when you say "Bite it!"

Nose challenged

for this trick, because if the nose is correctly laid back there is nothing for the treat to rest on.  I have tried to stick the treat over the nose rope inbetween the eyes...they go crossed eyed looking at it...LOL and it gets stuck in the grove.   Dogs with muzzles, like our Dobes were really great with this trick.  They would hold for ever until you told them to get it, then flip it in the air and snatch it.

Well enough...

She's still having "accidents", some days worst than others.  So we took her in for some tests on Tuesday to rule out anything "evil" and hopefully find a way to control this a bit better.  The good news is that it doesn't seem to bother her.  The bad news is that it's a lot of work for mummy...

We should be getting the results today so we'll see.  We've already ruled out a UTI and some other stuff, so we'll see.

This weekend, we'll be setting up a new "tinkle station" on the balcony for her with artificial grass to see if she'll go.  Part of the problem is that she has to go so far before getting outside that she can't always hold it.  If we can train her to go on the porch, then I think we'll go a long way towards solving the problem.  And, it means I won't have to put on her boots all the time because they put so much salt out in front of our building.

We've also bought her a new orthopedic bed so she can be comfy when we go away at Christmas, and I'm cooking for her, and we got a waterproof cover for the sofa...  Basically, getting old sucks!  But we're doing everything we can to help her age with grace.  She's going to be 12 in April, after all.

Smooch her young boy toy for me, would ya?

aww

it sounds like you are doing everything you can possibly do!  I hope she takes to the grass.  If not there are scent marking poles you can stick in to entice her.  Give her some lubbins from me too.  =)

Will do!

If Onslow were closer, I'd have him come over the pee on the new grass to invite Stella to do the same.  I'm sure that would work!

high five

My youngest Bean (10 months) learned to high five in 1 night. I couldn't believe it! He doesn't know (or pretends to not know) any other word. Unlike my oldest Jackson, who turned 1 in August knows so many words, but you can't teach him to high five for nothing. He doesn't like his feet touched. Bean will high five for food, but sometimes he likes to bite your hand at the same time. But, it was an easy trick to teach.

Norbert's best trick was a "crawl"

First teach the down...then with a treat infront of their noses ask them to crawl...using what ever word you want. He got so he would crawl with his butt up and with a light hand over his bum he finally figured out how to do it with his bum down. It's easier for them to do this on a wood floor...he could crawl all the way across the kitchen. He also could rollover, high five, shake, speak w/hand signal.  What was really funny was when he would get really excited he would try to do them all at once, LOL.  I so wish I had a video of him doing his tricks.

getting Kippah to lay down from sitting......

Is like getting my ex to pay his child support, NO way NO how!  LOL

She will sit immediatly when you tell her, and now I dont even have to tell her at times she know she will be asked, like when walking on a leash and I stop.  BOOM immediatly that butt goes down and she looks to me for the next command or to be released.   BUT getting her to lay down from sitting is rediculous.  she CAN, but she wont,  Yesterday we were working on it and after the 5th try she got so mad at me she looked right in my face and barked at me!

But we will try!  Never hurts to try   Ohhhhhhh she can push my buttons so much, just like my 15 yr old daughter!
